Well this is the thing with 'reintroduction', how far back do you go? Once there actually were safari plain animals on what is now blighty so the elephant poster really is only slightly more ridiculous than all the other ideas.

I made that elephant one  just to highlight the stupidity of it all

Don't think pin realised that...he's not the sharpest pin in the box! ???

Erm, I know the elephant one was made up, which is why I said what I did, IE the eagles thing seems to be serious. I checked it out and they have many papers on the subject.

The elephant fake wasn't even credible, you used the wrong font and didn't change "eagle" to "elephant" lower down.

The ;) was to indicate embarrassment of the previous poster having dismissed it out of hand when it was a very real possibility.

Sheesh

I think that Elephants could successfully be introduced to parts of England, as there appears to be (no end of) people, that have clearly passed their Driving Test, on one. Would make the rush hour and construction work in London, more interesting.

"What do you want the .50 BMG and .338 lapua magnum for?" says officer plod

for hunting elephant of course

on a more serious note would a bird of prey that big be as bad as a fox, they'd have a lamb or a chicken no problem anyway.I'd say even a small sheep could be in trouble

As I live in Suffolk, I see no reason to to re-introduce the White tailed eagle. I must admit to not knowing an aweful lot about the Bird in question, but having seen the re-introduction of Red Kites and the success to which they have spread, surely it can't be a bad thing?

I realise that there are an aweful lot of Shooting syndicates who may not appreciate raptors of any description going after their Partridge/Pheasants that they have reared/released, but if the environment and local eco-system can sustain such a re-introduction why not?

SS

Edit: Vegeta, Suffolk's not renowned for Sheep Farming, there is however the Bernard Matthews Factory at Halesworth (of the recent Bird Flu Fame), but that's not a bad thing.

I wonder what load will work best? prob need non tox

The Russian made "RPG-7" would be ideal, cheap and readily available in many parts of the world. I've got mates currently in Afghanistan's Helmand Province on Op Herrick and they could pick me up some souvenirs, just as soon as the nice Dr Reid signs a Sect 5 request for me.

Trouble is it is not a re introduction as they were apparently never there in the first place!!! Just a load of do gooders sticking their oar in. If they do introduce it it will screw the balance of things up guaranteed.

Like the elephant poster - just about sums up the whole debacle - we should really stop messing around with nature with these scheme of introducing species - look at the cock ups we made in australia with cane toads etc etc

I have spoke to three landowners who are local to one of the areas about this reintroduction and they are all dead against it. The main gripe is that introducing a predator which can be controlled if proved to be a problem is not so bad, but as in the case of these they are all Birds of prey which as we all know are protected. I think another of their main concerns is that of all the unwanted 'Twitchers' which invade their land and openly trespass to view these Birds.

I have encountered them a few times while decoying, they are all like the rambling fraternity who just think they have a right to roam in pursuit of their hobby, or should I say 'Obsession'
