Walker570
The first of the crops to be harvested on my area and I thought nice windy afternoon, I'll give it a go. I had to get some wood cut in the morning adjacent to the fields and there was about 100crows on the stubbles as well and a steady flow of pigeons along a shallow valley I know well. Had lunch, drove back and chose to set up by a tree I know to be often used by passing pigeons, a couple flitted by as I set the decoys and a fishing rod floater. Put a crow on a bale in the field and a couple close by. Looked good. 20 mins into the afternoon about twenty woodies came from behind me and I heard the supersonic crack as they passed. They turned sharply and landed in a tree about 60yrds away. 30 mins they didn't move and no further birds showing I fired a shot out of my moderated Mossy 410 and they flew out up wind. H'mmm OK if that's the way they want to play. So I up sticks and moved across to just covering that tree. Adjusted my decoys and 10 mins two pigeons floated in against the wind and landed in the tree I had just moved from ...................... I will not bore you further, but another pack of thirty came through just out of range, two of those turned and landed in same tree ....... I walked across and fetched the Landie and loaded up TOTAL FAILURE!!

fortune
Been there! Sometimes I've put a stripped up fertilizer sack on a stick near the other tree to try to get them to consider the tree and area where my pattern is. where I am set up.
