HDAV
http://www.government-online.net/shotgun-system-contract-ministry-of-defence/ Just saw this while looking for some info on Tender..... some interesting bits of info.. The shotgun must be capable of being used as a breaching device with one barrel and should be capable of changing its barrel in order to be accurate to a range of 100 metres. theshootist
Why don't they just keep buying the benelli M4s already purchased under UOR?
Zapp
That's what I wondered too. Some petty nicety of defence procurement which will be very costly to amend I suspect.

TIGHTCHOKE
Wabbitbosher is submitting a tender using his proliferation of single barrels as a one shot system. Fire it and throw it away at £150 a piece! Edited August 23, 2017 by TIGHTCHOKE
arm3000gt
Why don't they just keep buying the benelli M4s already purchased under UOR? I believe things procured under UOR can skip the majority of the trials and tests equipment goes through before being certified for service. Being urgent there is much greater leeway in selection and down selection of equipment. Once the operation under which the UOR item was purchased ceases, it gets withdrawn. Under the MoD procurement they have to open the tender to everyone. If they continued with what they already have, they will have bypassed this system which in MoD land is bad. So you arrive at the situation we appear to be at now, where the existing stock will be withdrawn and the tender process begins. It is entirely possible that at the end of the tender process they end up buying the same shotguns again. Assuming it passes all the required tests and there is no undue perceived bias to any one tenderer. Such is the the way MoD as I understand it procure things. I am however happy to be corrected my knowledge may have holes.
ChrisAsh
I would imagine a need for shotguns to stop drones being flown close to ships in harbour, especially now they have been modified to drop ammunition like grenades or worse Always had quartermaster plus one on deck at all times . maybe another on the bow now
welshwarrior
UOR kit is not supported beyond the operation it can be bought into the core equipment but it's not and easy task as full support contracts must be put in place. This will be train part maintance and replacements. The Combat Shotgun was not that great so this possibly a way of looking for a better option that would be carried and utilities more often than the current option.
