30-6
A recent post on here asked could birds taste. Two days ago I was talking to a friend who was waging war on an un catchable rat in his out building. After trying every bait he could think of in a snap trap, he was advised to try pork fat. He zip clipped some belly pork rinds to the trap, which was under a flower trough with a small hole in one end. Out of sight and set on the floor, next day he found a robin in it, he felt guilty as hell. So can all birds smell ?, I know they have nostrils and have read that corvids use this sense. Stonepark
All birds as far as i am aware can smell, but like mammals, some better than others depending on the size and sensitivity of their nasal cavity. A turkey vulture can smell a rotten carcase from over a mile away.
Mice!
I would think so, I put bird food out fairly regular but quite often during summer it could be empty for a week maybe before I top up, I can be sure within an hour or so of fresh stuff going out the long tailed tits are there followed by others. Sako7mm
I once forgot about a brace of pheasants in the back of the truck for a couple of months. They certainly did smell.
Benthejockey
I was stood behind one in a bar one night that definitely had an aroma...
Rimfireboy
They sometimes smell. Best to send the revolver in first, then sniff you're fingers before going any further. If in doubt, don't **** the trout.

mickyh
Never get Crows in my garden. But when I strip a Chicken carcass or chop up leftover Pork fat to feed the Birds, we have Crows and Magpies within the hour. As if from nowhere. As stated, in the Rainforest where there is no view from above, some types of Vultures can come in from 20 K plus and drop down onto carrion. Some birds have an incredible sense of smell.
