Shooting With Brian

Looking at the weather forcast we should not have ventured out with the onset of storm Brian making an appearance today but DB had seen a good number of birds on some cut maize yesterday down the motorway from Brum, so off we go and dash down the motorway to arrrive at the field and not a bird!!!!!

So we made a zig zag route of all our permissions back up to home without finding any birds in numbers. All we could find was acornist flocks moving from tree to tree, knowing that if you set up they would not return as they have lots of trees to choose from. We made our way back to the bean field we have shot two weeks running to find twenty or so birds on the seeded wheat with none joining, so we gave it a miss and kept driving. We eventually found a field of direct drilled wheat with approx thirty birds down and a few battling with the wind to join. Phone call to the farmer, yes you can shoot, so set up under a large oak tree with the brolly in position should the heavans open and placed the ten thawed birds round the tree as if they are picking up acorns and the magnet to the side of the hide to add movement. the first few birds struggled to get into the wind to come near the pattern and we had to prune a few low braches as they obstructed the high birds. We shot from 13.30 to 17.00 and picked up seventysix pigeons and two corvids and had covered one hundred and twenty miles
