pin
I recently ditched Barclays for Halifax. Mind, the Indians were annoying and half the reason I did it, but stone me if the people I have spoken to here in the UK @ Halifax are not the most clueless I have ever dealt with. So far I have a debit card in someone else's name and they don't seem too bothered about it, they have failed to sell some shares when I told them too and keep sending me "Welcome to Halifax" letters even though I have been with them 2 months. Oh well

No I totally agree, I find it's hard work to listen and understand what they are saying because it is heavily accented, the same problem I have with the scottish
Dunkield
the same problem I have with the scottish  Me too, I understand more of the Indians than the Jocks - sorry. Maybe Glas-geeee is the new Bangalore
pin
Scotland and Sunderland (and to some extent Newcastle) were all hotbeds for call centres from about early 2001. Lost out a bit to Bangalore recently but from what I hear people moving for this reason are on the increase and when it starts to hit the bottom line the will listen and bring them back "onshore". LEFTY478
I moved my a/c from HSBC last April, after 23 years with HSBC/Midland Bank (as it once was). But I didn't closed the account. I kept a few hundred pence in it (and a in a savings a/c), on purpose. They moved jobs to India, so I help keep british postmen in work, 'cos they still have to send me both statements every month. These are then re-cycled into bedding for next doors kid's ginny-pig, so everyone's a winner.

naddan28
Halifax are generally clueless! When I went into to open an ISA, I wasn't allowed prior to an 'investment meeting' (Even though I do finance for a degree and was advised by a independant financial advisor!) where some silly women spent an hour trying to talk me through all the options to decide that I actually made the right decision in my ISA. Also, she spent 10 mins lecturing me that I was stupid placing excess student loan in the ISA, well maybe in her opnion but being that the loan's interest is inflation based and the ISA is 5% I come out at 3% better off , which she eventually conceded too. As for online services, its a joke! You can only transfer money from my ISA to another halifax account (which I don't have) unless I phone them on a premium rate number to get things transfered. Although I suppose on the pluss side, its a brilliant incentive not to spend any of it  Dan

ME
I have been with First Direct for 17 years. I cant fault them. It is all done over the phone or on the internet or you can pay in to any HSBC. The people are either in Lanarkshire or Leeds and are very helpful. You can call them 24 hours, seven days a week. Unfortunately First Direct dont do a business account so I am with Lloyds TSB and they are sh*te.

Bradders
Am with the Woolwich, well I did work for them for 17 years before Barclays took us over. Made redundant got a good payout so not complaining.....Anyway Barclays are now transferring all my accounst to Barclays and I have to use their online system, nowhere near as good as the Woolwich one (I would say that I helped develop it) 1st question I ask when someone wants me to take one of their products out is "where is your call centre", unless it's UK based they dont get my business. Barclays actually have one in Clacton. Had to make an insurance claim this week, burst pipe, leaked into my study, missed my computers....Called them and it was all UK based (Barclays (ex Woolwich) Insurance). DirtyDeeds
Don't like Barclays - urgh (spit/belch/etc)! Mucked up my account no end years back. Been with Nationwide BS ever since (about 18 years now) - no complaints! However (slight derail here), if Barclays merg with the Dutch bank, I will feel sorry for them - this is political correctness gone too far! SNAKEBITE
I'm not biased so I am going to have to say that all the high street banks are one step up from horse traders. Infact, one step down. At least if you buy dogey goods from a chap "darn the boozer" you know you are going to be cheated.
al4x
I'm only with Barclays as they're the only ones who will give us a big enough mortgage, thats softened by the fact our personal banker is great. Online with them is **** whenever I do the business payments at the end of the month it takes forever the site is so slow

I have a fixed rate offset mortgage with them, they are one of the only banks to offer fixed offset. All my money in one place working for me, like the one account but my rate is fixed not variable. That's great if you have money to offset your debts !!! There are far too many guns to buy and cars to buy to ever have anything to offset !!!
