I need some help on cartridge size have a semi auto Remington 1100 12g. on the barrel is stamped 12g or 2 3/4 or shorter shells . then it say 2 3/4 skeet . then under that say 3 1/4 tons per so ..... what cartridges can it take ? any thing ? just 2 3/4 or can it take 3 1/4 ? any help would be amazing. Sorry for the question if it is stupid . But just want to make sure. Thanks
TIGHTCHOKE
2 3/4 inch shells are the maximum you should use in that gun. No question is stupid, far better to ask if you are not sure.
Graham M
If it says it can take 2-3/4" or shorter why would you think you could put shells half an inch longer in it??? The Skeet refers to the choke whilst the 3-1/2 tons refers to the pressure that the gun has been proofed to, which is 10,427PSI which is normally what 3" chambered guns are proofed to. Are you sure it doesn't read 3-1/4 tons Edited October 29, 2017 by Graham M

TIGHTCHOKE
2 3/4 shells all u need for remi if using steel no tighter than half choke Oh that old chestnut yet again. It is a 2 3/4 chambered skeet barrel, it would be fine if it were a tight one, the 1/2 choke guidance is for the large superior steel cartridges. Not the ordinary steel shells that would be used for clay pigeon shoots.
TIGHTCHOKE
your picture shows; 12GA For 2 3/4 or shorter shells. .729" is the original barrel diameter. 3 1/4 tons is the proof. BNP is the proof mark. 12 is the bore again. 2 3/4 is the cartridge length again. Skeet is the original choking of the barrel. Doitwithstyle
so no longer than 2 3/4 and any gram being semi auto or 24 + or will 21gram work ? or is it try and see
TIGHTCHOKE
It is designed for 2 3/4 inch shells, being a Semi- Auto it will always work more smoothly with 70mm shells. It may work with 24g and even 21g but I would suggest not. Edited October 29, 2017 by TIGHTCHOKE

impala59
Ive got 2 1100 if i keep it clean it works ok with 24g 67mm cartridges +1 for keeping it clean, youtube for take down and re-assembly videos. Also get yourself a couple of gas seals (proper Remington are best) as spares (from the 'bay) Mine works fine with 21's but different cartridges/gun combinations will always be around to catch you out! Its really suck it and see with the lighter cartridges, hope you've got a good well looked after Remmy, it should do everything you want it to. Doitwithstyle
Seems to be in nice condition considered the age of it . I’m not scared to take it apart so will do a full clean on my next free day . Been told that it cycles 21s but we shall see
