pigeon controller
Friday while I was at the stables had a call , Thousands on the Rape, this was due to the dusting of snow we had overnight. So returned home, gear in the Disco and off we go. As I left the city the snow was deeper and as I arrived at the farm I pulled into the field and about seventy to one hundred pigeons lifted off the bank, I saw the farmer up the road so drove up to him and chewed the fat. I was set up for 11.00 ( second picture ) I had a flock of birds come back shot two and at 12.00 the snow started again ( third picture) end of day, Farmer happy as I turned up. Today, similar story different farmer. I arrived at the field at 09.00, solo this week DB working. there were approx three hundred birds down on a seventy acre rape field, the majority were on the hedges around the field with two groups down on the rape. I chose the group in the centre of the field and walked down and set up with the magnet and ten birds on cradles above the rape. The birds returned in groups of ten\fifteen so you would shoot two and spook the rest and as the day went on the frequency reduced so at 15.00 I called it a day and picked up exactly thirty birds. the farmer was happy that I had kept them off. We have four inches of snow forecast overnight so that will cover all the rape. JDog
Good effort in those conditions. At least with snow pigeons will not get onto the acorns.
marsh man
I was always under the impression that pigeon wouldn't decoy in the snow , or am I making an excuse not to venture out in the cold weather for a few shots at pigeons?, in that sort of weather I go in the wood and wait for them to come home instead of sitting out on a cold hedge. What a difference a 100+ miles make in the weather , today we were near game shooting near Norwich in bright sunshine in the morning and thin cloud in the afternoon , although it didn't hover above freezing point all day. Well done , it was still a good bag for the conditions
yickdaz
I,ll say what most have already done, not a bad return in them conditions, it makes everything harder, the decoys don't show up well, the birds hardly fly when it snows and its cold sat in a hide so that's a result
