Stimo22
So Birmingham has won the Commonwealth games and going to spend £750 million on it . Let's hope that unlike the Olympics that the shooting will get the money spent on somthing solid rather than waste it on temp sites and then take it all down afterwards
V8 90
I’ve been thinking/hoping the same but unfortunately I just can’t see it happening ?
PhilR
I'm sure I read/heard somewhere that shooting wasn't included in the bid. Happy to be corrected though.

Gordon R
If they could not cater for the full range of sports, they should not have bid for, nor been granted, the Games. Disgrace.
HDAV
Incredible what on earth are our supposed sporting bodies doing closest venue 130 miles away (that wasn’t used for the olympics so how is it Olympic standard?) and there are plenty of MoD sites closer that could have used the 2012 set up..... It was thought unlikely that it would be included as part of Birmingham's plans as the closest Olympic-standard shooting range to the city is 130 miles away in Bisley in Surrey. The International Shooting Sport Federation and British Shooting had both claimed earlier this year that the sport should be contested at the 2022 Games. The International Shooting Sport Federation and British Shooting had both claimed earlier this year that the sport should be contested at the 2022 Games. There is no 2012 set up. The traps and control equipment was all on loan, the actual ranges were demountable and are no longer in existence. All that's left is the grass matting. That was used at the Comm Games site in Scotland in 2014. It was going to be binned afterwards but is now festering at Nuthampstead allegedly to be used on their earth bund. The Manchester Comm Games in 2002 used the then newly built facilities at NCSC, Bisley which was a tad further than 130 miles. They don't meet the ISSF range specifications and that's one of the reasons why the London Olympic Games weren't held there. The big question of why they didn't meet the ISSF specification, in particular the clay ranges, is long, complicated and as various key players are no longer with us, or are no longer in post is now irrelevant for the use they are currently put to. HDAV
If they were loaned for 2012 they could be loaned for 2022...... I forgot Manchester used Bisley where are they doing the sailing? Not many Olympic sailing venues in Birmingham.......

Salopian
What we need to realise is that Shooting Sports are Anti-social and very dangerous . Guns should not be allowed to be used by anyone except the Police or Military ! WE the Shooting Community should have promoted the use of Kingsbury Ranges just outside Birmingham , or why on Earth doesn't the CPSA or BASC purchase Doveridge Shooting Facility which has been on the market for years ? Centrally located , easy motorway access , already got a lot of infrastructure in place. Lots of Land and facilities for development as a National / International shooting facility. The likelihood of CPSA doing something sensible like this is less than Boris Johnson defecting to the Corbin momentum movement
