harrycatcat1
I have been looking at one of these to replace my ML. Has anyone got one had one? I would have thought that it would be more economical than my 2700cc 2005 and no doubt someone will know? I normally keep cars for 100,000 miles and have them serviced every 10,000 miles I have done this with a Vauxhall Carlton, Ford escort, vw golf, merc C class and this ML. Should the Touareg be the next?
wisdom
Daughters got one nice motor comfy nippy but not too economical might be a bigger engine though.
Gordon R
Eldest had one until about 18 months ago - the bigger horsepower version. Truly awful ride. Slightest bump in the road sent a shock through your spine. Nippy, thirsty and overall awful. Replaced it with a new Merc GLE. Not as quick, but a far better ride. harrycatcat1
Mmmm the other option was another ML, 2012 ish with lowish miles but its a 2.1 engine would this be under powered for an ML?

Flashman
My previous 4x4 garage had nothing but bad things to say about them. Prone to expensive repairs - not great build quality and not as strong as other 4x4s. Owners treated them as 4x4, rather than as an SUV, so lots of broken drive parts. johnnytheboy
Allot of touregs were in 24month contract hire and due to the high price of servicing were never serviced, check the initial service record! I’m hugely biased towards mercedes and would have a ml over a toureg all day long! I’m sure it’s the same engine in my sprinter van which is 4x4 3.5t and it pushes that along nicely! I have to say both my C class and this ML have been very good, never needed to top oil between services for 200,000 miles and just routine services apart from two injector seals on the ML. Talki g about being underpowered i once had a 1300cc cortina 1975ish and it was slow but once up to speed it was ok
wingnut
I had the Touareg 2.5 R5 Which i absolutely loved, i did an awful lot of miles in it, almost 65,000 in 18 months always had it well serviced by trained technicians , it had all the toys including air suspension, auto, tiptronic, sports gearbox, extremely comfortable and pretty amazing off road, would i buy another - not a 2.5 - but apparently the 3.0 v6 is the best option, but can be expensive if it all goes pear shaped, i spent a fortune on mine in the time i had it, but i absolutely loved it. notsosureshot
I got one from new in 2015 (latest model at the time), the higher powered TDI version of the 3.0 V6 with a full panoramic roof and loaded with toys. It was quick for the type of vehicle, thirsty but no more than you'd expect really (my best was 42mpg on a long run) and I found the ride quality to be sporty (for type) but brilliant. These are not made for offroading really, so if thats your goal look elsewhere, but for light offroading/mainly onroad in a package that wont make you look too much like a Chelsea tractor mummy, they work. I'd only consider running a car of this value (50k+) under factory warranty. Part costs are relative to a cars value as new, not its used value! Hands down it's the best car I've ever owned overall and I've had quite a few including so called premium brands. Sold it in 2017 but only for tax reasons. Did about 25k miles in it overall. I'd have another one in a heartbeat. Might want to look at the upper versions of the Q5 for a bit more luxury if thats you're thing. SQ5 is a belter, but you do risk looking a bit hairdresser ish. I'm not sure why someone suggested service prices for the Touareg were high. Mine was £350 at a main dealer for each service. Considering then class of vehicle I felt that was very reasonable. No use comparing it to a ford focus in terms of costs, obviously. Buy your own ad-blu though (amazon), VW dealerships charge a fortune. harrycatcat1
My ML is still running ok so I think I will just keep running it as i recently put 4 new tyres on which worked well in the snow. It was like a reindeer. Still fancy a Tourareg next though.

Thanks but I can't just make my mind up what to swap to to so I have decided to keep this ML to 140,000 at least. Good luck with your sale.
