Not really iam a good 1/4 mile from the river. It looked very short legged but as there is 2" of snow it probably looked shorter than is was.

Maybe. It could have been the reflection in the snow, but my wife saw it as well and she said it had a curved beak.

Don't know of any British bird smaller that a woodcock with a curved bill! Certainly not a corncrake as someone suggested they're as big as a moorhen and it's in the wrong location, at the wrong time of year!

The description is inadequate to make an accurate identification!
