Poor ******, but what a relief. It is absolutely shameful he was put through this.

Large banner headline, quick press conference and some publicity. That's the name of the game these days. Don't worry about evidence or lack of it.

To quote PIN, it is something that really boils my **** and the people responsible in the media and the police need their ***** kicked in equal measures - but oh no, it's just a job with very little come back - they will say they presented the evidence and it was upto the CPS and the Jury. You won't see anyone on the editorial team of the Mirror or those involved in the police enquiry cooling their heels in a cell for 9 months as a result of this? What really does it, is that they don't appear to be just be a little bit wrong on this one but 101% wrong from from the start, middle and end.

Good result - I hope the media display the result as prominently as their damming headlines when it first went wrong for the fellow.

This has been yet another example of police overstating their case as an excuse for abusing their powers. I do hope some of them lose their promotional status for this pointless expense to the tax payer.

Also, although the BBC has in this instance felt able to point the finger at other media sensationalism - they themselves frequently overstate things in their quest for an audience.

I remember the news coverage of Diana's death.

Daily Mail, Express and Sun before her death entirely negative about her divorce, what she did to the Royal family and knocking about drunk with a foreign fella...

After her death, all that sickly stuff about the loss of the people's princess as if they never said a bad word about her.

After the event the all make out that they backed the winner from the off! :good:

PPPpfffffff

Graham, that must be some kind of spoof surely. :good:

They even have quotes like this;

"But Detective Superintendent Kevin Davis, from Operation Trident, said: "Today¿s verdict is a message to anyone who should try to covertly sell illegal firearms.

"The revolver that led us to Shepherd was being used on the streets of London in serious crime. It is wholly unacceptable that Shepherd was selling these firearms under the guise of a legitimate business."

At the bottom of that page, there is a link to the story that he was set free, but it doesn't work.

Unfortunately it isn’t a spoof at all. It seems that the BBC had already written their version of events complete with a pack of lies from the eejit detective who made the arrest…..and then accidentally released it instead of the later (true) version.

Someone should be sacked over this………but they won’t of course. :good:

And the truth-

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6223750.stm

"When the police raided him on 13 September 2006, the story was covered widely in the media, with several reporters claiming the guns were linked to a number of murders.

But when it came to his trial there was no mention of any of Mr Shepherd's guns ever being used in murders or indeed any crimes." :good:

So what lying toe-rag of a reporter made those allegations, and why isn’t he being arrested and charged for giving the police false information.

Or could it be that it was a joint set-up between the Met and the press……..b@st@rds!!!!!!!!!!

regarding the detectives buying the said guns to put mick s in court, wheren't they themselves guilty of entrapment.

That says a lot about the press. I can understand them making the basis of a story in preparation before the outcome is known but this is another example of presumptuous journalism at it's best  And how the hell can they quote a detective before the outcome is announced, have they guessed or has he given different quotes dependent on the decision? More likely both the press and the Op Trident team had prejudged the jury - wrongly

i hope mick sheperd really takes them to the cleaners , they'll need to do some serious back peddaling to get out of this one.

the press don't give a monkeys about the truth so they will get out of it....they do everytime.....whoever it was who made the decision in the CPS to charge will also gert no comeback.....they will have purely followed an procedure map and if enough boxes are ticked then the individual grips the rail at court....so again no comeback.......there are plenty of times when blatantly guilty people get off scott free.....and as it would appear in this case(only my opinion with little knowledge of the ins and outs) it would appear an innocent man has been put through the mill for nowt.

Although at least I now know elvis truly still is alive

Check out the music on his website - I open it in another tab and have it playing in the background, winds the Mrs up big time :good:

Micks Guns

quality.....although saying that, I never did visit his website before all this kerfuffle(never heard of Mick) although I very much doubt if his old website was anything like this one, that he was some sort of master underworld gun dealer. As has already been stated if it wasn't so serious it would be laughable(although I disagree with some of the anti-trident feelings posted on this foeum.....having been witness to the work they often do they are a very professional bunch....don't know what went on in this case though)
