Guest
You are better using a local one .otherwise it could take longer .they will have to contact you by post then you will have to go to sign the final docs

SO3isme
You could do worse than ask your estate agent (assuming that you are using one) for a recommendation. They have every interest in promoting a firm that will do a good job.

Thunderbird
Don't touch online conveyancers with a very long barge pole. I nearly lost a house I was buying once because the seller had gone for the cheapest online option. You couldn't make up just how incompetent they were and how awful the service was. Local solicitor is always best, their service comes with accountabilities that no other service can. I agree with the above comment from SO3isme, it's in the agent's interests to promote a quick, efficient local firm.
SO3isme
Ask again for further recommendation. You probably can't persuade a local solicitor to match a conveyancing specialist on price, but you should be able to get a reasonable price assuming it's a relatively normal transaction. Although lots of agents are in schemes where they get referral fees for placing punters with bucketshop mobs staffed by kids and which operate from industrial estates in the middle of nowhere. It’s the most amount of money you’ll spend in one go in your life so don’t try and do it on the cheap. Monkeys and peanuts and all that. lord_seagrave
We got bent over by estate agents (Connells) and their conveyancing monkeys (Conveyancing Direct) when buying. Find a good solicitor (by recommendation, ideally) and ensure that your interests are protected. I’ll send you two names. LS
Thunderbird
Agreed with the last two comments too, I too would avoid an agent's 'in house' conveyancing, despite the 'in theory' viewpoint that it ought to be good, and ask around for personal recommendations. Turmoil
Would agree with the last three comments avoid in house... The estate agent for my last house tried to get me to use some firm 70 miles away... No thank you and in the end we saved nearly £700 on the price they quoted... spandit
We had 9 months of conveyancing hell buying our current house with an online firm. It wasn't a straightforward transaction in fairness and their fees were way in excess of the initial quote but still worked out cheaper than the local solicitors we'd used before!
