welshwarrior
Only had 7.62x39 on the license and had 308s for over 20 years never had an issue with either target or sporting ammo.

That's interesting! The old .308/7.62x51 debate has raged for years, but 7.62x39 is a very different cartridge!

Can't understand that because 7.62 Russian is not the same as .308, and firearms dept's have been going by designation for years now. On that basis you could ask for a .22 Hornet and then buy a .222, .223, .223 Win super Short Magnum, .22-250, .22 Swift etc because they are all .224 bullets. I've even heard of people having .308 and not being able to buy 7.62 ammo, so how the heck can you have 7.62 Russian and buy a .308 rifle and ammo. walshie
If you have 308/7.62mm (as I have) you can buy any 7.62mm ammo you like as it doesn't specify x39, x51 or x63 and obviously any 308. Not much use though as the 39 and 63 wouldn't fit my rifle. I'd have thought having 7.62x39 specifically would mean you can only buy that particular ammo. As said, get 308/7.62 on your ticket and you're covered for everything you want.
Lloyd90
Spoke to the FEO - I asked him to put 308 / 7.62 ... he said shouldn’t be a problem. I promised to stop bothering him now ? no body tell me I’ve missed anything else

You have I assume a rifle chambered for 308 Winchester there is no 308 chambering! Also if you swapped my 7.62x39 bullets into your 308win you’d have an issue as the bullets are bigger. Ammo comes in chammbering bullets and barrel in diameters

May not have been clear I’ve only had one rifle listed witb7.62 and that’s 7.62x39. Ive had 308 win and 308 nm also on ticket. Never had a problem buying 7.62 NATO or 7.62 x51 ammo for a 308 win. Oh and 7.62 Russian is 7.62x54R not 7.62x39!!! Edited April 22, 2018 by welshwarrior

I would have got a tikka t3 but they felt like a kids toy, there also quite a small rifle. Not made for the 'larger' person I don't think, I've got a howa 1500 and my 308 is a savage axis, for 300 quid for the savage I can't complain, half inch groups at 100 and it doesn't bother me that it gets covered in blood and mud! deadeye
i own both and they both kill with authority and i really like both calibers. if forced to choose one, i would opt for the 308 win simply because i kill most of my game inside of 100 yds. having said that.......the 270 win is an outstanding caliber.
