ferguson_tom
Hi everyone We are looking at buying a house that needs quite a bit of work. It's an old 4 bedroom farmhouse and all the bedrooms are doubles so it's a fair size. The main job it needs is a full replaster with the old stuff ripped off first. I appreciate it all depends on the size but can someone give me a rough idea of how much this might cost? Plastering is one of the only things I can't do myself! Many thanks, Tom
Winston72
Do you want the walls plaster boarding or coating in browning? and how high are the ceilings? Edited April 29, 2018 by Winston72
Paddy Galore!
depending on the work involved, is it timber lathes and lime plaster? bloody messy job and not going to be cheap. for example, to knock off lime plaster from brickwork, dot and dab new boards, then skim is nearly a weeks work for me, plus disposal of the waste and materials cost i'd estimate £1000 a room while your at it, maybe strip the heating system out and re wire Edited April 29, 2018 by Paddy Galore! ferguson_tom
thanks for the feedback, i think it would be back to brickwork then build back up from there with whatever is the best option. The plan was to replace all the wiring and put a new heating system in at the same time.
Wiggum
I’ve just done a rewire on a 5 bed new build and the plastering cost for that was 15k

Vince Green
You can save a lot if you take off the old plaster yourself, its not hard but very messy. Mostly the plaster falls off by itself
The Mighty Prawn
Ours was a three double bed, large kitchen and lounge, small utility and one bathroom, took plaster down myself and dabbed up the board s which brought skimming costs down to approx 500 a room on average

bang bang birdy
I did all the donkey work on my extensions and lined ceilings and dot and dab walls. I found a plasterer that charged me £150 a day cash, but I supplied all the materials
GingerCat
A friend is having it stripped back to brick in 4 rooms and a half and remastered. Less than 2k. Looks good so far.
