Salop Matt
I have recently been really impressed with my dad's cordless screwdriver! Not a drill or impact driver but a cordless screwdriver, it's a Bosh and was brilliant a fortnight ago when we put up a new shed and wiring in side and guttering outside. When I first saw it I thought it was a gimmick but I've really had to eat humble pie as it's been excellent all day on a single charge. Dads used it loads and is real impressed too so am fancying one now also. So any recommendations over a Bosh before I go and treat myself? Also why your recommendation over a Bosh ? TIA Matt
Ricko
I'd describe myself as a keen amateur rather than a professional user and have a lot of Bosch tools. About 30 years ago Machine Mart had an offer that if you bought 50 x 4" grinding discs you got a free angle grinder, their own label version. I've still got it, upon inspection on the inside of the plastic casing it's stamped Stayer (not a common make). Yes, I've replaced the cord after I nicked it with a still spinning disc! And I've also replaced a collapsed bearing. Bit of a vibration when I use it but it's still going strong and gets used a lot.

Westward
I received a small handheld Bosch electric driver a few years ago as birthday prezzie. It looked a bit Mickey Mouse, almost like Dan Dare's ray gun, but I have to say I'm mightily impressed. I can carry it my pocket and whilst it's not up to heavy stuff it's great for jobs like flatpacks.

manthing
It's a bit like choosing a new gun. Try a few if you can. I've had everything from festool to ryobi. Personally don't like the dewalt battery gear. Was the bosch green (DIY) or blue (trade)? What sort of use will it get? If only occasionally then you can pick sets up with a couple of 1.3Ah batteries for £100 to £150 which will be fine. Make sure the batteries are lithion. I'm currently trying a milwalkie 12v and a small battery last me more than a day as a kitchen fitter.

It's just for odd jobs around the home and garden shed. Sometimes down the shoot but nothing too heavy at all, pre-drilled holes etc as it will save swapping bits in my cordless drill that's getting a bit long in the tooth now ! Salop Matt
The thing I like about the bosh is the different heads you can put on and the known quality.
figgy
I bought my parents a blue Bosch screwdriver the 10.8 v lithium version, they use it for virtually everything they put up or take to bits. Looks a lot like the Mafel one winnie&bezza linked to. Mat the time I paid around £140 they had not long been released.
The Heron
I have had a Dewalt battery screw driver for the last ten years and it has seen some really hard work yet still works as good as new holds its charge well and charges in a short time I would not be without it. I found a Bosch blue 9" grinder on a scrap pile 28 years ago, it just needed new brushes (they've got a central plastic peg that pops out when they wear down to stop it damaging the armature). Still going strong.
