sandspider
Hi all Thinking about getting one of the above, to look for leaks in pipework, inaccessible bits of cars etc. A quick squiz on ebay finds me this - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HD-1200P-Inspection-Camera-Borescope-Endoscope-USB-Type-C-For-Android-Phone-PC/264132845064?hash=item3d7f8b5e08:m:mD-PN2BjxPmiCCnoOZOnhyw It comes from China, but seems to have a better resolution than the usual 640x480. Is this all I need? Is there any reason to spend more? Can anyone recommend a good one? I don't mind spending a bit more if there's a tangible difference in quality, functionality etc. Thanks. Newbie to this
I know someone who bought one similar and he is happy with it.
sportsbob
I have one and its OK but not fantastic, the quality of the mirrors for looking sideways are poor and the focal length for the camera is fairly critical. If you want one for a general look around something like inside a rocker box or inside a sump then OK but if you want one for assessing bore condition then you need to spend a lot more money. Lord Geordie
I have one of those that works on my laptop and the image is fine. I used it while doing the valve faces in Hawkeyes Webley. It was a god send. It also helps when looking down the back of an engine for a bolt or nut I drop as it comes with a clip on magnet!
Wb123
I’ve used one for a few things to good effect. The mirrors are **** though.
amateur
I bought one of these last year for just over £5. Although it is Android compatible, and the seller warns you that it is not Samsung S8 compatible, it did not work on my Samsung A5 as the USB supplied is not to Samsung spec. I did investigate getting an appropriate USB to Samsung converter, but, equally I was a bit hesitant at exposing my phone to my workshop, so I bought one of these - a dedicated endoscope, which works very well and is less expensive to damage than my phone. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-7-Industrial-Inspection-Camera-Endoscope-Dia-5-5mm-Flexible-Tube-Waterproof-/282904629346?hash=item41de6e1062
figgy
I bought a WiFi 10m long endoscope so.it works across platforms. Has a button to take pics on the unit and a dial to turn up the brightness of the leds, the app has lots of functions to record and alter the image quality. Comes with mirror to see 90 Deg a magnet and hook. I'm happy with it cost was iirc £30 delivered from Amazon.
Diver One
I have a wifi version its ok for stuff you need to see when you get within a few inches of it...waste of time on a barrel tried it on my 1890s SBS, used the 45° mirror to see sideways waste of time.....far too close and just a blurred image
sandspider
Thanks one and all. I'm not trying to look at bores, so think I'll give this one a go. Can't really go wrong at the price.
