Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
Hi all. Well as promised was out after pigeons today alas alone, dead eye duck has to keep wheels of industry turning. I managed to do rather well. Was in the hide and set up for 0830hrs with a small spinney and pit hole as my background, standard horsehoe pattern with nearest decoy 20yds out and farthest 30yds out. Wind blowing away from me. Didn't have to wait long before customer arrived pitching straight into the decoys at 30yds out, killed 'im dead in the air for a good start to the day. The birds came in dribs and drabs for a couple of hours turning up in 2 - 4 bunches. i steadily scored, missing a few but hitting more than i missed. Around 11am things started to pick up. i had a good couple of hours which included 4 right and lefts and a goodley number of singletons. At this time the birds got a little wary, i had been a little blase with the pattern, and had allowed the shape to to get a little busy.... i rearranged it to the horseshoe and got immediate results. I hit the next 14 birds in succesion, then as i had convinced myself this pigeon shooting lark is easy peasy i missed 2 hovering over the decoys :(.. cue taking myself into corner of hide for good talking to. Not sure what he was thinking but a crow put in an appearance at this time and paid the price for coming into range as i added him to the growing bag. During the afternoon the birds came steadily in 3 - 5 gangs and i frequently hit the singletons and added a couple more right and lefts, i almost had the beretta holy grail of a right, left and right alas on the 3rd shot i missed so am still waiting for it.again i scored well for a couple of hours and as finish time of 4.30pm approached got a text off dead eye ducj to check progress. thought i had got around 50 - 60. As i began to gather the slain and the count went from 50 to 60 to 70 to 80 and still not got all the birds in yet i started to think about the century mark?? with all the birds in from the decoy pattern i had 94 birds in the bag. Faithful hound then worked the small spiney and pit hole and added another 5 to the bag to give me 99 birds....... No chufffin way i am going home on this score and resolve to allow another 15 mins for last bird. Thankfully my reconaissance pays off i am under a flightline and with no decoys out another bird crosses at 30yds out, 20yds up. No mistake and the 100th bird is added to the bag. Woo hoo!!!!!! 100 pigeons and 1 crow. Poor dog was knackered, she was good all day never putting a paw wrong. perfect directional control and she even managed to stay awake for the day!!! ( did bribe her with choccy biscuits ). I have never shot anywhere near this number in the past and shall remember my day for a long time indeed. pavman
Fantastic Top shooting young man, you dont get many ton bags and when you think they eat about £1 worth of crops each a week, you just saved the farmer £400 in the next month alone :(

Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
thanks for kind words gents. was shooting over rape stubble. Don was sorely missed indeed, could have done with an extra pair of hands to carry the slain back to the car. Would we have got that many if he was there?:(??? No doubt about it though shares in gamebore would have gone up considerably
