Key fob

I have recently purchased a Mitsubishi Pajero evolution 1997 from Japan, it only has one plain key not the fob one that you press to lock doors etc. I nearly got caught out when I locked the door with it and It did not work to open them, luckily I had the window down so I could reach in and unlock them, can you get a new fob and some how program it to work. I have not had a chance to call Mitsubishi yet as they are still closed.

Thanks

I can’t help you with your problem but they are very cool. Some pictures would be appreciated.

Not many people know what they are, I am waiting for DVLA to catch up so I can put it on U.K. plates, It won’t see any deserts with me but I have give it spin over the fields and it’s very entertaining.

You should be able to get a specialist locksmith to read the key code and replace it with a blank chipped key. I had a couple done when I bought a 53plate l200 many years ago. Obviously finding a motor locksmith open is another matter. Good luck.

Ok thanks, I will try to find one.

Ask on the Mitsubushi owners forum rather than here. You are going to need to join the forum anyway to find out where to get spares because lots of things are different on the Japanese imports.

You may find Mitsubushi UK less than helpful. a) because its an import and b) its 23 years old

Google car fobs and you should have a bunch of independant locksmiths specialising in car key fobs. Had a problem with the one for my Jag Xtype and a really nice young man turned out witing 24hrs, checked the system reprogrammed or whatever and included a plain key which would unlock if everything else failed.  He was an Independant and also a disabled person but had got his act together and was doing ever so well and a pleasure to do business with.  The best was, he was not expensive and I was amazed how reasonable he did the job for.

They were one of my dream 4x4s when I was younger. If you don’t mind me asking what made you buy one

You get nothing for your money in the bank now so I have been buying a few cars that I think will go up in value over time, all so great fun to drive. The Evolution was only ever made in small numbers so Mitsubishi could put one in the Dakar rally, I think 2500 were made To qualify , how many are left now I have no idea. The only real problem I have is once you start buying it’s difficult to stop or though indoor space may well stop me soon. Just a couple more.
