Conor O'Gorman
Shooting Times update here:https://www.shootinguk.co.uk/news/former-lord-mayor-of-york-forced-to-apologise-after-welcoming-death-of-fieldsports-fan-and-world-cup-hero-jack-charlton-114329 Today we have sent an email to BASC members residing in York and the surrounding area asking that they contact their local councillors and MPs to raise the issue at a local level. In our weekly BASC Live email to all subscribers (BASC members and non-members), which went out this afternoon, we included a call to action on a petition on this issue. This had an immediate impact with hundreds of new signatures pushing the petition over 5,000 signatures and counting. The petition is here:https://www.change.org/p/york-green-party-sack-councillor-david-taylor To subscribe to BASC Live visit https://basc.org.uk/basc-live/ We will continue to push for a quick and satisfactory outcome to this issue. grrclark
Great to see the voice of shooting put all it's organisational might to censure a comment by a local councillor. A "call to action" to the BASC members to support an angry petition that is hosted on a commercial profit making platform. That ought to have the anti shooting fraterntiy quivering in their boots. The inevitable pitfall of encouraging mob contribution? See the screenshot below for the very first comment beneath the petition. What a fabulous image this comment portrays about the shooting/hunting fraternity. Edited July 16, 2020 by grrclark

Conor O'Gorman
The joint leaders of the Green Party have informed BASC that they have suspended Cllr Dave Taylor pending an investigation into his actions.

Indeed and now you yourselves have called for action because someone voiced an opinion you didn't like you're going to look rather hypocritical if you don't condemn the actions/words of this presumed shooter. What did I say about cancel culture coming back to bite you in the ***?

Dave Taylor may be an awful human being with despicable views (I don't know him so I can't really say), but he has a right to an opinion. No one is blocking his free speech. And he is within his rights to have an opinion. What is wrong is that he's using a platform that he agreed to abide by the rules of when he joined to put out hateful remarks, contrary to those rules he agreed to abide by. That way we could claim persecuted minority status? Edited July 17, 2020 by mick miller

It does indeed, crowd sourced and funded engagement in the right way is a massively useful tool, i'm just not sold on virtual lynch mobs.
