How to best join poly braid rope?

I've just made a few dog leads. I whipped some cord round the lead loop with a knot I used to use to tie spade hooks with (sorry I can't remember what it is called), then I applied a strong glue and finally wrapped insulating tape round it.

So far it has held firm.

Nail knot perhaps.

If it's just a one off, using laid rope is possibly a better option. A properly spliced braided rope looks superb but it needs time and practice to get it just so. I've just been using some 6mm hempex from Rope Source and have found it ideal. If you do look at it ignore the white-ish colour and bald look as it is a natural hemp light brown/beige colour and 'hairy'. Just made some table place and serving dish mats using the 6mm and they've turned out really well.

Yer 'tis

As jdog suggests, whipping is the easiest route and very secure.  Used a waxed whipping twine. If you can get a bit of heat-shrink sleeve you can finish it very nicely.

If you have time and patience aplenty, nimble fingers, good eyes and an inclination the. braiding it is an option.
