The Heavyweight Boxing Merry Go Round

Tyson signs up for a triple header with Wilder, but wilder goes nuts so fury looks elsewhere. Joshua signs up eventually, but then it's off. Then it's not going to happen. Then it's definitely on in Saudi Arabia. Now the courts have deemed it must be Wilder. And Joshua has to meet Usyk. It's starting to get a little bit boring and risks sapping the spectators' energy.

I hope Fury turns Wilder into mulch again, and then we can finally see Fury-Joshua.

But the worrying one for me is Usyk - Joshua. I love Usyk. Once the first three rounds are over, he's the most elegant and technically correct boxer around, but I don't think he's a heavyweight. If Joshua connects with a chopping right, I can't see Usyk standing up for long. I don't want to see a loss on Usyk's record just for the sake of moving up a division. What he deserves is a better cruiser division - or more profile for the lower weights so he doesn't feel a need to jump weights to prove himself.

Speaking of lower weights, Taylor's win from last night sounds like it will be worth following up with. All four belts on the line and taken by Taylor in a barnstormer! A unanimous points win against an American in America. Two knockdowns for him helped to recover ground lost in the earlier rounds.

I thought the Fury-Joshua fight was on, I expected the build up to be nasty and messy and the fight no different,  with hopefully Fury shutting him up in the ring where it matters.

I've not even heard of him, I'll have a look on YouTube later.

Nope! It's off now. The US courts have sided with Wilder's team to force a rematch to the rematch. So the fight in Saudi Arabia is now off or Wilder would get a $20m  as a buy out fee. That's meant the WBO can order Joshua to fight their contender, Usyk.

I don't think Fury is bothered who he fights. Best heavyweight around at the moment.

Great fight by Taylor.

Fury undoubtedly has bipolar disorder.

When he is on a manic high he trains harder than almost anyone I have seen, there's no doubt he puts in the work, and when he steps in the ring with that mentality they'd almost have to kill him to stop him.

Sadly when he comes down from all that he then sits in that little caravan outside of his house in a terrible state, saying he thinks about killing himself etc.

I imagine one day he will do it and it will be a tragedy :/

I have to hold my hands up - there was a time when I couldn't stand Tyson Fury. Loud mouthed, never looked fit, prone to irrational outbursts. A very good mate's son-in-law was one of his sparring partners. He maintained - away from the cameras- he was a decent lad.

As time has passed, I have come to appreciate that, whilst he will never be fit to lace Muhammed Ali's boots, he is fast on his feet for a big man, with fast hands. When he plants his feet, he can punch. He also has a decent chin. I hope he will whip Wilder for the third time, then silence the racist Joshua and retire. I hope his retirement is long and happy.

Tyson fury and many other heavyweights since would have wiped the floor with Ali, a comparison is unfair as they were in different era's but Ali would definitely loose.

I'm not really interested in cross-generational comparisons, but the one I'd love to see is a prime Lewis vs Fury. Fury's big, awkward and moves so well for a big man, but I think if anyone could work him out and then stop him, it'd be Lewis, who was so good at adapting to a fighter - and could punch like a sledge hammer. Ifs, buts and maybes, but I agree with you about Ali.

That's definitely a closer fight although I still think he'd get edged. My only reason for that is vitali klitschko basically retired Lewis, he was ahead on all score cards when a cut forced the fight to be stopped. Lewis retired before a rematch could happen. I'd say vitalis broth wlad was better again and although fury beat him out of his prime, I still think he outclassed him that much, he'd have beaten a prime wlad klitschko. But then who knows 😂

Go on then, I'll bite. ;)

Vitali did have to have 60 stitches put into his face after that fight! I know people criticise the ref/doctor for stopping it, but Lewis was insanely accurate with his punching, he would have targeted that mess of a face (now deemed to awful to be shown on youtube!). Vitali was definitely ahead, but it wouldn't have stayed that way. Apparently Lewis was always planning to retire after Kirk Johnson. But it turned into Vitali when Johnson suffered a training injury. No idea if that's true, but it's what was said at the time and what Lewis has said since.

But there we go. As you say, Who knows!

No true, it's why the era's can't be compared, some would say Lewis was past his prime, others that vitali was still inexperienced and still won. The thing is sports don't go backwards and where as the winner of prime Lewis and wladimir is debatable, the winner of furry and Ali is not, the truth is it'd almost be a one sided fight, like Allan Wells in a sprint vs Usain Bolt
