dusk2dawn
first two of the season Its good that the season has finally arrived but they do look more like sparrows, why not give them a little longer, they will still be there and will imo provide better sport by being stronger fliers and eat better having lived off the land awhile longer. (They need a bit of fat on them to stop them drying out in the oven, lip smacking noises.. ) The other aspect to be considered surely is that showing pictures of shot immature birds plays into the hands of the antis. Teal
Shooting them in that state is like treating them as vermin, the cock's head isn't even coloured yet. Wait until november

al4x
Shooting them in that state is like treating them as vermin, the cock's head isn't even coloured yet. Wait until november still taste the same despite the colour of their head they won't be very big though they are very imature birds. They lack the strength to fly well. Best to wait for later in the season or pick birds with proper tails as there will still be some of last years birds about. Its one of the issues we have on early partridge days, and generally now we just say no pheasants till usually the beginning of November. Ours do tend to be pretty immature till then though
Country_est
Dazza, Goody day out was it ? Were you just walked up / ruff shooting I take it. I will be out on Sat (first day I can make it). At this time of year I usually find them still in the hedgerows and a bit easier to flush when single handed. Leaving them to November means they tend to have moved tot he woods and are more likely to run till out of range or fly only when they get to the outside of the wood, and I cant be in 2 places at once. Had some of last season pheasnats out of the freezer on sunday to start claering the room in the fridge. Cheers Trev
dazza
Just a bit of rough shooting and they flew as well as any pheasants I've ever shot. Like you I have to take the chances on days when I can get out.
caeser
I think some of you are being a bit rough on dazza. Fair enough give him advice, not everyone is in the perfect situation, and the pheasants are in season, so he has done nothing wrong. Well done dazza.
