starlight post about worse job .got me to think about the best job i have ever had .when i was 20 i was offered a job in paris as a nanny .from day one the famliy treated me like a member of their famliy .i was aloud to come and go as i pleased they even fitted the hours i worked around my social life .i had one fantastic time. for a young naive impressionable young girl that i was then i had the time off my life . i have lots of memories and photos off my time there that will give me a warm glow and a tinkle in my eyes when old and grey and the only thrill i have left is watching some poor postman tight little **** disappearing out of my garden gate .so come on what was yours or what would be your dream job xxxx suzy

I was on 216 Squadron for 6 years, the RAF's Tristar fleet.

Spent 6 years travelling the 4 corners of the globe, partied hard in every major city in the world, made some fantastic friends, pulled some goooorgeous ladies (and a few swampdonkeys!). Gulf war 1 was 'interesting', we tanked the bombers over the desert (air2air refuelling).

Happy times!!

Now work as a surveyor in Central London - not quite the same

I'd be a marine biologist if I didn't have bills to pay.

 I always wanted to be a marine biologist, didn't get enough points at A Level to go up to Scotland to study so plumped for Construction industry as a QS. It's amazing in this industry how many QS's there are who never wanted to be a QS or in construction :good: .

I think to study the marine life whether it be in warm climates such as the caribbean or indeed the North sea wastelands would be an excellant, stress free life.

How about this for a 'job'

I was flying back from Djerba to Paris and was sat next to 2 very tanned french girls.

One spoke perfect English and wanted to talk so subject of work came up.

Belive it or not, about 10 of them had been to the island testing suntan lotion out, all expenses paid for 2 weeks

They worked for one of the French pharmaceutical companies and had been picked for their different skin types.

Nice work if you can get it.

Best job I had was being paid per call to fix pc's and printers.

If you were any good at all and were organised you could do anywhere between 6 and 10 calls a day.

No career path and the gravy train was bound to smack into the buffers at any time.

Sort of hard work and lots of driving, with a bit of paperwork when you got in, but the more you did the more you earnt, simple as that - it was fairly easy work once you knew the products and 60 to 70k was a average figure to earn a year and days were very short - ahhh, those were the days.

My best job was on the channel tunnel construction.

Nights for over 2 years, My gang only had to knock out two steel liners a shift- finished in three hours and were the on the highest bonus.

I stayed in a caravan on a 600 acre farm in a small village nearby. I used to go shooting every other day.

I soon came down with a bump though- After I finished there I ended up 60 miles off the shetlands for a year and it used to take me 2 days there and two days back........... Plus I only got to shoot half a dozen times when at home in that year!!!!

Well harsh

Starlight I met a bloke years ago who claimed to have worked on the tunnel as a sparkie.

He claimed they were on a daily rate so to spin the job out they used to lay cabe during the day and the night shift would rip it all out for them again - does that sound true to you?

The best slacking job I ever had was, 'maintaining' 2 fairly large computer systems in Tripoli.

Nice earner at the time, 3 months out there, and then 4-6 weeks back home, on tax free money even when on leave

2 of us sat there for over 2 years watching and they only had one one fault (self induced) in all that time.

I fixed that while the other guy was on leave, he was gutted that he had missed the 'action' when he got back :good:

If nothing else, it was tribute to the way those systems were built.

We used to import for a few Porn DVD, magazine and vibrator manufacturers.

As part of my "work" I had to go to the Erotica exhibition every year and meet porn star babes and come home with bags full of mags, dvds and sex toys. It nearly sent me blind but good fun !!!

....and YES the vibrator industry is a "real buzz" !!! :good::blush: .....before anyone says it !!!!!

....and YES it was a real "eye opener"....

....and YES it was a "hard job"....

....and YES there was "stiff competition" for the job....

The job i do now is the best for me i think - self employed Architectural Consultant, i get to meet all sorts of people and design them some nice houses or extensions - it's good watching something 'come alive' ( house being built) that has been drawn on paper and i also get to get out of the office quite often to go to site.

i also get to take days off to go shooting when ever i want because i only have myself to answer to.
