Acerforestry
I'm about to apply for a shotgun license here in Kent. Onr thing that a guy I work with mentioned that could possibly affect an application is that when the firearms officer attended his home, he noted that he did not have a house alarm. He did have very attentive and sharp dogs and the license was granted anyway, but how important and relevant is it that your home has a deterrent if you are not in? TIA, Phil
TIGHTCHOKE
Alarm usually only needed for a large number of weapons.

bruno22rf
Alarms are not compulsory even if you have a large amount of guns, you can put them in several cabinets, in some cases where local cases of burglary are common your FEO can suggest an alarm but, afaik, it is not a legal requirement in any circumstances for private storage. udderlyoffroad
Depends very much on your force area. Remember, every force is interpreting Home office Security Guidelines, not following specific legislation. So, for example, Avon and Somerset, they insist on an alarm above 6 firearms (please, not ‘weapons’ @TIGHTCHOKE), and a monitored alarm above 12. This applies regardless of number of cabinets. @Acerforestry, you're best off calling/emailing your local force firearms team and getting an answer from the horses' mouth. samboy
Just for a bit of peace of mind i have a burglar alarm, cctv, ringbell and a dog. I feel it all helps. What the police seemed more concerned about was quality locks on windows and doors. I also put a piece of 1"x1" wood along the patio doors runner so it cant be pushed along. You can only do your best. Edited March 31, 2022 by samboy
Old Boggy
I live in Kent and provided doors and windows have good locking facilities, I was told that an alarm is not necessary. Hope this helps. OB

Westley
I would always have a house alarm, regardless of having firearms.
