I had to laugh today when I enlisted my wife to stretch out the netting whilst I got in a position to fix. She said "you do get some stupid ideas"  don't think she was happy helping 🤣🤣

funny that .........my wife used to do and say the same...'cept she would roll her eyes and sigh when helping me with an important shooting related project....

their brains seem to be wired differently..........bless

do you get a lot of blacks around the container you have set it against? I would want it a bit more in the open so they can see from all angles, more so when you have a couple of call birds in the trap.

I put it there because it can't be seen from the road but with hindsight I think I should have put it closer to the sheds that can't be seen from the road. I didn't want it getting damaged with machines moving about🤔

Probably reposition tomorrow.

edited to say yes are are a lot of blacks all over that area 👍

That looks a better place, but not knowing/seeing the ground its hard to say, are there many birds around the yard? What are they feeding on?

It can take a week or more for them to find it and get confident in going in and out of the trap, having said that, sometimes the trap is just not in the right place, if they show no interest in 2-3 weeks move it.

When the yard is quiet there must be 50 or 60 at least and the area holds hundreds at one time all around the buildings eating the cows feed.

Thanks for the advice 👍👍👍

if you can find a small feed trough put in by the trap and put some cow feed in it, if they start using it move the trough inside the trap, you could throw some on the ground around the trap.

I’d probably bait it with some of the cows feed as well as anything else you are using

I have done that, I must have read your mind 😉👍

Do you know you have given me an idea 💡 I have a galvanised chicken feeder that would fit the bill perfectly, thanks 👍👍👍

Just to conclude, if I was to start again I would follow the instructions in the basc video of how to build a ladder trap that old'un posted. In my defence mine was over half built when the video was posted.

Probably my decision to make it the size to transport in my trailer wasn't the best because moving it about on site in a one'er is not easy. The only thing is if it was 6 panels to transport they wouldn't fit in my trailer easily and I don't have a truck cab.

I also think that although there are lots of corvids at the farm where I positioned the ladder trap there is too much available food without going near a strange structure that's recently appeared.

So I think that what I will do (if I can't get a call bird that is) is to bring the trap back to base and strip it down and convert it to 6 panels so that it can be stored behind the garage till spring and zip tied together on site.

I'd like to thank everyone who has commented and given advice and hopefully it might encourage others to have a go and hopefully not make as many mistakes as I did 😊 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍
