Fines for white birds are a pathetic means of extracting cash from the guns, even more so if they are put down just for this reason.

Fines to genuinely discourage guns from shooting locally rare game such as wild grey partridge or black game is understandable, but fined for shooting a common as muck released bird is beyond a joke.  I am incredulous that the modern game shot goes along with this malpractice.

I tend to agree, on some of the shoots ive been on its a £10 fine or a round of drinks in the pub for a bit of banter

you lot attend some funny shoots.......all the shoots i went on had white marker birds on them...nothing to do with extracting dosh from guns...the fine was there for a reason...and if you did shoot one ..you got serious greif from the head keeper...as it made his life more difficult in planning the days shoots...we were always told in no uncertain terms

  1. dont shoot foxes
  2. dont shoot ground game
  3. dont shoot white marker birds (as they are there for a good reason)
  4. donts shoot Reives pheasants...(only if they attack you..im not joking )
  5. dont shoot Mexican partridge either

We now include Woodcock , you can shoot them if you alone want to take them home , we now find that most of the guns don't take up the offer.

English Partridges were also off the list , we didn't have that many and in the heat of the moment a lot of the less experienced guns had a job to tell the difference , no fines were imposed , just a light bit of banter
