Minky
Sometimes... I don't know if is just random or on an item's value. You could be charged the vat on the item... but the sting in the tail is that you might get a letter from royal mail informing you that you owe them £X vat on the item... fair enough but they also charge £x for their surcharge to INFORM YOU that the vat is payable. I can't remember but I thought cheeky. Charging a fee to notify and then vat on that fee, +the original vat on the item. Ps I THINK that I POSSIBLY got charged £17 vat and £7 notification fee. AND I had to pay it BEFORE the item would be delivered. Edited February 23, 2023 by Minky
Westley
I don't know if Italy is the same as Germany, but, I wanted a new spring for my Beretta 300 semi auto. On the Italian website it clearly shows the required part at under €3. Then we got to the tax and shipping which was .........€25. Pre Brexit the same part was €12 delivered ! Jaymo
I get stuff sent to colleagues addresses to avoid all this now, some places won’t even ship to the UK anymore.
Dougy
Watch out for the tax. I got stung with import tax and vat on top of that vat added onto delivery too.
smokingdragon
some German companies are now adopting the Chinese method of shipping, declaring the goods value to be under £17 and therefore no duties

Yes if the system works how it should then you pay a processing fee and vat.
