Buying from Germany

Sometimes... I don't know if is just random or on an item's value.   You could be charged the vat on the item...  but the sting in the tail is that you might get a letter from royal mail informing you that you owe them £X vat on the item... fair enough but they also charge £x for their surcharge to INFORM YOU that the vat is payable. I can't remember but I thought cheeky.  Charging a fee to notify and then vat on that fee, +the original vat on the item.

Ps I  THINK that I  POSSIBLY got charged £17 vat and £7 notification fee.  AND I had to pay it BEFORE the item would be delivered.

I don't know if Italy is the same as Germany, but, I wanted a new spring for my Beretta 300 semi auto. On the Italian website it clearly shows the required part at under €3. Then we got to the tax and shipping which was .........€25. Pre Brexit the same part was €12 delivered   !
