samboy
Hi gang. I'm looking to buy one so can anyone recommend something half decent. It will be only used for light work so no need to break the bank. Thanks all.
mmamonster
I use 18v dewalt ones, I have dewalt tools so cheaper for me to just buy the unit with no batteries Atb Mart
Mungler
Makita. Once you jump in and commit (batteries and charger) everything else makes sense. Their Twin battery hedge trimmer is very good.
chesterse
Another one for the 18v DeWalt. I bought one to do my hedges as I needed something lighter after a couple of operations and was really impressed on how they coped with my 100 metres of hedges up to 8 ft high. udderlyoffroad
The answer is, simply, whichever cordless tool brand’s drill driver you already own, buy matching hedge trimmer. They’re all serviceable. I’ve got Makita, and it’s done some hard work cutting beater’s paths this year.
JohnfromUK
I use Stihl, which has been very good (2nd season this season) and have added the long reach version this year. Same battery (AK series does other Stihl items).
adzyvilla
Had a mate who has his own landscaping/gardening business around to help me cut my overgrown 200ft long mixed hedge right back this year and all his gear (trimmer, long reach and chainsaw) was milwaukee. Very impressed with how long the battery lasted before they needed charging, and being lighter than all my two stroke gear were pleasant to use over extended periods. He has recently switched from dewalt to milwaukee as his preferred make but I understand they are quite pricey.
JohnfromUK
Just now, adzyvilla said: Had a mate who has his own landscaping/gardening business around to help me cut my overgrown 200ft long mixed hedge right back this year and all his gear (trimmer, long reach and chainsaw) was milwaukee. I can understand a business wanting to spend more and get the best. I was looking to get a 'family' that used the same batteries and for all Milwaukee it was far too much. The only poor one I have from Stihl is the strimmer.
Old Boggy
I have had a Flymo 24v Sabre for about ten years and has worked well for me over that time and still used frequently. It`s probably classed as for lightweight use but coped well will my hedges and being extendable and angled is perfect for my higher than average hedges and my shorter than average legs Cannot remember how much it was but being tight, I cannot imagine paying more than £80 for it.
