Bigteddy1954
Hi just a question on cartridge price and differences .just been on just cartridges and compared a clay load to a game load 28gram 7.5 fibre wad .to a hi-flyer 28gram 6 fibre wad these are eley.same cartridge length same pay load as in 28 grams I know that the shot size is different but how can they justify nearly £100 difference . Cheers teddy
TIGHTCHOKE
They cannot. A clay load is cheaper than the same load called a PIGEON load. Then it just goes onwards and upwards through all the fancy game shells and the even sillier "FAST" clay loads.
oldypigeonpopper
hello, which makes are you comparing , Just Carts are sometimes more expensive than some local RFDs or Clay Shoots
enfieldspares
Scale of economy. The machine when set for the clay load will load hundreds of thousands. The machine set for the game load maybe tens of thousands. So I am guessing that the time to set the thing up has to be paid for? And of course that word "game" adds to the price? Personally a better comparison might be between a clay load of one ounce of 7 1/2 and a game load of one ounce of 7.

Cheers teddy A little tip. Buy Italian 7 1/2 clay loads with 2.4 mm shot. It is actually a UK 7 and brilliant for pigeons (and crows). As for shot size 6 and above……. yes the price difference is highly questionable. Manufacturing volumes may excuse a £10 or £20 increase, but not £100 and more. Sadly can’t obtain them any longer for a decent price but up until a year or so ago I used to buy the load you’re describing from a small local gun shop, RC2 competition loaded in 6 shot…..for some reason they weren’t much over £200/thousand for years, the last lot less than £250/thou. They were just that, their budget clay load in a 6 and were absolutely mustard on pigeons!

Used tens of thousands of them over the years, shot some flighting pigeons not long ago with them and pulled down some crackers!
Sweet11-87
its just a marketing racquet. late 2021 early 2022 i got a 1000 cartridges through my PSG club made by eley apparently to spec for practical shooting supplies. 28g of 6 fibre wad, 70mm, high brass all black case stamped with a silver 6 and thats it. usually use Olympic blues and these were somewhat smoother and really leathered the birds. i think they were maybe eley vip unbranded.........£55-60 quid a slab. none of the big players will release a 28g 6 fibre thats not aimed and priced for grouse shooters because they will make most of the product line redundant. ive still got a few ill dig them out and upload pictures Edited January 2 by Sweet11-
