Just got back from our last syndicate driven day.
The birds flew exceptionally well on the strong wind, despite the rain, and started well with 4 for 4, including a woodcock, and finished the day on 6 for 10.
Really pleased with new gun. 👍

You're very brave Scully! I'd never take a new gun out that I'd not tried first on clays. I wouldn't have the courage even if I was 100% certain the gunfit was spot on. I guess at least you checked that it would fire and eject before setting off?

Didn’t have the opportunity to try it, but knew it fitted and everything was in working order. 👍

Thank you. Really enjoyed using it. I already own two trap guns, but they’re fixed choke. This one is multi choked, so best of both worlds really.

I think that he has been shooting long enough to know when a gun 'fits' and feels right. However, the particular gun is of such build and design, that I feel sure it is one of those guns that anyone can shoot, due in no small fact I'm sure, to the Monte Carlo stock.

I recall having a Miroku 800 Trap gun, with a Monte Carlo stock as a 'Club gun' years ago. I can not recall any experienced shooter who could not pick that gun up and shoot it well. The design and handling of the Miroku is very similar to the Winchester 101.

I have a similar gun and like Scully,  I shot it well straight out of the box (literally). However, it came with 2 sets of woodwork, and I just love 'tinkering' 🙄

Using the Trap stock, although I shot it well enough at most targets, I struggled to shoot anything dropping or going downhill. I swapped stocks to the Sporting stock, but that was just catching my cheekbone.  Enter the Isis comb raiser. Having fitted that (courtesy of ips, a past contributer on here) it seems to be about right, having shot 50 ex 60 twice at the local ground. The guns, as Scully rightly says, handle exceptionally well and are a joy to shoot.

Good to know!

Have, still, even after forty years plus, an unhappy memory of a Browning High Power in 1980 that consistently wouldn't eject and of course, only came to light to me on my first time of use.

The only problems I’ve had with SH guns, was a pitted barrel on a 9mm Steyr semi auto pistol, which I didn’t spot in the shop, but kept because it was pin accurate, a 682 SuperSport with out of time ejectors ( easily fixed ) and a Mossberg .410 pump which had to be racked twice to eject the spent case.
Took a bit of fixing to be honest but was as slick as can be once put right.
The pistol, the Beretta and the Mossberg were all bought from RFD’s, make of that what you will. Have never had an issue from a private deal. 🤷‍♂️
Annoying admittedly, but all rectified.
I knew the CD was sound as I know the seller, having dealt with him in the past.
