What’s going on here? 
It’s a Model 37 Ithaca, which featured on the posters ( this is just a promotional still and not the poster ) for Get Carter, but never featured in the film. 
Why would anyone modify the stock in this fashion? I can’t figure out any function for which it would be suitable. 🤷‍♂️

That’s the only thing that I could think of too! Wouldn’t want to try it for real!

Definitely not !!! Perhaps the bit that's missing was carved out and turned into an ashtray 🤷😀

For a while I was starting to go down the @Miserableolgittrain of thought. It does look quite superimposed.
