The blank was very nice to turn and finish, and have ordered a few more of this colour acrylic blanks for future calls, and it sounds very good 👍
Shambam1962
Just an update, a few recent acrylic calls and a wild cherry wood call. The wood was kindly sent by greenshank1 and I have enough pieces left over, for more projects. I was kindly sent a large piece of American Cherry from Holloway a few weeks ago, and plan to make a few goose calls at a later date out of this. Made a display stand to show the calls off. Pleased with the end results ! Edited April 18 by Shambam1962 Wrong PW member name added on initial post, a bit of a senior moment.

Shambam1962
Thank you Old Boggy, and yes I’m pleased with the results 👍 I have recently turned an assortment of different inserts, for future projects and cut on the steel sound board jig I made in a previous post. Very pleased how they sound.
Shambam1962
I made my 1st proper wooden pinkfoot goose call yesterday and very pleased how it sounds and looks. I did make a prototype wooden goose call a few weeks ago along the old Olt style call and learnt from making this and altering the reed and sound board until I was happy with the sound it makes now, and replicated on the new wooden call. I will try making an acrylic goose call, at a later date, and will adapt (bore) , the middle call in the photo of 3 calls below I made last week, for the new reed insert. I will only have to make an acrylic reed insert to match the barrel and tune to suit ! I had a piece of two coloured acrylic rod in a job lot, I purchased, and I turned it yesterday to see how it looked made up. I the colour reminds me of rhubarb and custard sweets I had as a kid ! It’s not my personal choice, but was really nice to machine, but is a bit garish, and in your face, but it sounds really good..

oldypigeonpopper
Hello, i like the old style goose one, have you tried making a fox call ??
Shambam1962
Thank you all for your comments. No I haven’t made a fox call oldypigeonpopper, but the call I used for years calling foxes, was a brass style wigeon call which I still have and use. I had a few different fox calls over the years, but I always found it very good for long distance calling, and brought them into shooting range, no problem. I am interested in the old vintage style wooden duck calls and saw a John Sandy Morrow peep sight tyle call for sale online. I watched it sell for £285 online and was intrigued by the peep sight style insert . I had a piece of Ash and attempted to replicate the style of call and fit with a metal style reed as the original had in the photo to find out how the call sounded. I made the call in 3 separate pieces, barrel, stopper and tone board, and the tone board was a bit fiddly to make and fitted with a Mylar reed until the stainless steel shim arrived for the reed and working well. I recently received a parcel from PW member greenshank1, who kindly sent a very good selection of antler pieces and a beautiful piece of bog oak for future projects. I made him an Arkansas style wooden duck call from a piece of Zebrano wood and fitted with a brass collar, which sounded very good, as a Thank You and new he would appreciate this type of call, as he too has an interest in the old vintage style calls. He received the call, and messaged to say he was delighted with the call and took a photo of it standing on his beautiful hand crafted table. A few photos. greenshank1
Hi Kevin Thanks again for the call I am absolutely delighted with it. The old style peep hole call you’ve done in ash looks fantastic and I am sure sounds amazing. A proper hand made “heirloom call “ 👍
