Could this cause an issue for Northamptonshire ticket holders

Recommended Posts

I’ve just been reading purely by chance about the chief constable of Northamptonshire police being found guilty by the iopc of gross misconduct and false/fraudulent representation in public office :- https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ceqq74pg1evo

could this cause issues for ticket holders sgc and or fac that where issued whilst he was in post?

I hope it won’t for anyone that may be in that force area but thought it was worth bringing to everyone’s attention.

maybe @Conor O'Gorman could pass comment, get a response from the basc legal team?

Chief constables join and leave forces regularly for all sorts of reasons, and this departure is not going to cause any issues for any certs issued whilst that chief constable was in post.

It was more with regards to the circumstances, he didn’t leave he was fired/sacked and had his integrity royally undermined. But, thank you for the response .

You are welcome, and I am aware of the circumstances, and I would repeat that this departure is not going to cause any issues for any certs issued whilst that chief constable was in post. Northamptonshire are one of the worst forces currently for firearms licensing turnaround times. Would you be willing to write to the PCC to raise your concerns about this and to request that improved service for firearms owners should be one of the priorities for the incoming chief constable?

Again thanks for the response, @TIGHTCHOKEis correct I do not reside in Northamptonshire, i brought the issue to light for the community on PW as I know some of the members are in that area, and tagged you into it because I’m a Basc member and had a feeling you’d be able to give an answer.

As for your question, yes if it was likely to be of use and actually be taken on board I would happily write to the pcc, but as tightchoke has already pointed out I don’t live in the area and will therefore likely be a pointless exercise. Although,  as a fully payed up member of The Basc I would encourage my representative body to take this up on behalf of all basc members residing in that area.

I doubt if this will impact on certificate holders, but the man is a proven liar and everything that his has done in his police career is surely worthy of consideration of review .

Entirely agree with what you have said and is what I was saying in a less obvious way.

Thanks. Are you happy with the advice that that this departure is not going to cause any issues for any certs issued whilst that chief constable was in post?

As regards contacting PCCs, BASC has been contacting the newly elected PCCs following BASC's campaign during PCC elections which some 13,000 engaged with. See: https://basc.org.uk/what-the-pcc-election-results-mean-for-firearms-licensing/ And it really helps if individuals as well as organisations contact PCCs where firearms licensing performance needs improving. I assumed you were in Northants but as you are not I agree it would not be relevant. However, if your police force is underperforming on firearms licensing then writing to your PCC about that would help.

The current priority is the general election, and again we are asking people to support BASC's campaign, by contacting candidate MPs and letting us know the feedback. If you have not already done so please visit https://basc.org.uk/contact-your-parliamentary-candidates/ to see your candidates' views on shooting - or where there has been no answer from them - to contact them asking for an answer.

I’d not considered this, I’ll put it in my to do list for this weekend/coming week.

As for the advice/answer you provided re the initial post, yes I’m happy and can only hope that you’re correct, let’s hope his indiscretions don’t lead to wider scrutiny of decision made by/under him

Any responses will be forwarded in due course, I have used the basc site and pre written email (with a little added) to send three local candidates the email.

Shady stuff? You'll be telling me next that all senior officers get promoted weeks before they retire 😡.

It had to be a minimum of two months. Pension decided by previous 2 months pay.
