Advice please

Hi,

I have a couple of old shotguns which I don't think have much value that I inherited over 10 years ago. I've kept my license valid but never used them. I'm wondering what the best way of getting rid of them is? Is it worth trying to sell them through a shop on a commission basis, or is it better to go through a private sale? I've heard there's not a lot of demand for used guns these days. Do they sometimes get scrapped? I'm located in Berkshire.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam

Since the OP hasn't been back on the forum since he posted asking for advice, I  assume he doesn't really want any.

Reading between the lines, I think he was hoping for a valuation ? 🤦‍♂️

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies and apologies for the delay in responding.

I really appreciate all the information given here, very useful. I've now contacted a shop to enquire about selling them on my behalf, but I'm also considering the suggestion of just handing them as they have no sentimental value. The only issue is that they're in good working order so it seems like a waste.

Once again, thanks for all the help!

Adam

Best way is to sell them privately
Easiest way is through a shop
There's still big demand for "nice" or "popular" guns these days
Sometimes they get scrapped

Adam, the reason why I asked what guns, is NOT to help value them, but so that people can see their value. A gun to you may just be a scrap job, to a collector it could be worth hundreds. A rizz OU should still have some value!

I think the best advice is to take them to a reputable gunshop. They will tell you what they're worth retail, then make you cry what they'd offer to sell them, and then you have a value. Often people may choose to sell privately for either the trade value, or halfway between trade and retail. This way everyone gets a bargain.

Once you know the value you can post pics here for free (in the sale section) with your price, location, and details, and then hopefully strike a deal.
