Shambam1962
We used to manufacture and repair hydraulic rams, and all the stainless rods after machining, would be sent to be chrome or nickel plated before rebuilding 👍 Edited October 19 by Shambam1962

Thanks Kevin, That would appear to clarify things.

They will be a surprise as no-one in my family ever look at PW. They think I`m looking at tractor porn for hours on end. The boards were supplied by the lady who did the laser engraving so I take no credit for that, but I`m very pleased with them and they are from olive wood and will be treated with olive oil prior to being wrapped up, so not shown at their best at present. I have shown the first 4 of 16 cheese knives to be completed. The ones shown are from Zebrano wood and the others are from Zebrano, Elm and Olive wood. They have yet to receive a final polish. The handles are purposely made different shapes and profiles. The olive wood gave off a beautiful olive aroma whilst turning but proved quite difficult to get a smooth finish on them. I`ve been thinking how to present the knives and the only solution that I`ve come up with so far are velvet purse type thingies (as photo). I may well think of some sort of wooden rack to house them. Got a bit of time to think between now and Xmas. No doubt Shambam1961 could suggest something so I`m, open to any suggest in that regard. I only hope the recipients like them (I`m sure they will) and get as much pleasure from them as I have making them. It is so therapeutic. Thanks for looking. OB Beautiful work as always Chris 👍. TIGHTCHOKE
Surely with Christmas fast approaching there must be an update on how you've solved the problem?

Still working on it. Plan A didn’t quite work so still wracking my little grey cell on the best and easiest solution within my limited woodworking skills. Old Boggy
After Shambam`s beautiful bottle stopper stand, my attempt at a stand for the cheese knives looks positively amateurish, but hopefully will be reasonably well received by family members at Christmas and just about fit for purpose. This is the first attempt of the simplest stand that I can come up with using my limited woodworking skills and equipment. The first photo shows the method of temporary attachment of the knives to the sloping stand using round magnets before the first coat of finish has been applied. I did find that using two magnets, one on top of the other increased the magnetism and held the knives more securely. Quite why that is, is beyond me, but I recall when visiting Ditchie a few years ago, he was playing with some earth magnets in his shed, so perhaps he can explain that one. My knowledge of physics in that area is pretty limited. The other photos are of the knives in position held by the magnets with further work necessary to finish the stand off, plus a coat off olive oil to the board to bring out the grain more. I decided not to attach the stands to the boards as I think that would make storage after use a little more difficult for the recipients. This is the first of 4 boards and knife sets that I`m part the way through so a bit more work still to do, plus final finishing. OB
