Repaired Dent

I recently bought a second hand AYA no.2 and used it for the 1st time on Saturday. I noticed a very minor irregularity in one barrel about 4" from the muzzle. There is a very small indentation on the outside shown below(roughly inline with dark mark on the table), and a corresponding 'riffle' on the inside (affecting a larger area than the outside). I know it's hard to answer without seeing the gun, but does this sound like a repaired dent?

Either way it is nothing to worry about.

I should say dents are never good but small ones are ok. Best get it checked though to be sure.

What he says. In time supposedly the shot passing up the barrel will wear the internal "riffle" down. So that when repaired that area of the barrel wall will be thinner than its surrounding metal. With steel shot in a plastic wad I would not want to shoot the gun. It's an AYA No2 so the problem is worth the money to fix.

Not long after I bought my first shotgun, a Lanber o/u, I rested it on a 5 bar metal farm gate and had a small little indent.

Looking up the barrels internally it showed as looking like a human strand of hair, outside was a small dent you could feel slightly.

Took it back to RFD where I bought it and it was sent to Gunmark the importers, who raised it. To look at it now it looks like " hammered finish " if you look close. At the time, long time ago, it cost me £25.

It was only done as a precaution if I remember correctly.

Proper way of raising a dent is to put a snug fitting plug down the bore under the dent and tap it up with a tiny dent hammer.
Afterwards you can paper off the hammer marks and re black the barrels if desired. Done properly you would only lose a couple of thou on wall thickness. Just knocked up you would have lost hardly any metal assuming they gave the bore a light lap.
