I'd happily not put a single decoration up or even acknowledge it. The actual base idea is great. Its just the fact it comes round so quickly. Digging out those dusty decorations and seeing all the cheap Chinese made tat in the shops... such a waste. Then we see some children who have perhaps thousands of pounds spent on them and complain its not enough... craziness! If we did Christmas every 4 years, like the Olympics, then I'd really get into the spirit! It is however a good excuse to meet people you don't see very often though as most folk tend to have a bit of time off, so that's good. That's two of us then, let's start a Facebook group

The other one that bugs me is folk sporting poppies before 5th November.

marsh man
Christmas can be however you want it be , in a lifetime you go through different stages , we really enjoyed it when we were kids even though we got next to nothing but we got what our parents could afford , the six of us got a few presents each and we had soft drinks , fruit and food we wouldn't normally get all the year round , we then moved on in life and enjoyed nights in the pubs leading up to Christmas and from soft drinks to drinks that made you feel good until the hangover the next day . Females then come into your life and Christmas change once again , you tie the knot and your children start to bring it all back from the type of Christmas you were brought up with , your kids move on and celebrating Christmas start to wane a bit and if you are both working you are looking forward to a rest and getting out in the fresh air . Now Christmas mean very little to me , far to early to plan what I will be doing but if the weather is kind I will no doubt get away from it all and might go for a walk around the coast before I put my dinner on , Boxing day I love and I will no doubt take my gun and have a wander around some marshes I can go on , will I shoot anything , it all depends what present itself , one way or other it don't really matter , getting out is what matters , so if you don't like all the build up then just ignore it , it your choice . That is exactly how it should be , just do your own thing , when we were first married and had our own house we used to have both my parents come to mine every year for dinner , some of the family would also pop round , I went with the flow of the tide and made sure everyone was catered for as Boxing Day had always been my day to please myself which apart from Sundays was nearly always shooting . Time move on and my father passed away first , I would then go and pick my mother up and called in my sister before we went back to mine , this carried on every year until my mother sadly passed away , this then left just me and my wife , my daughter live 20 odd miles away and we did go to hers one Christmas to have dinner and then we came away around teatime as I liked just being in my own place , then as you might know my wife passed away just before Christmas last year and the type of Christmas that I had known for well over 70 years will never be the same again , but that is part of the package of being born on Earth , life will go on and I will enjoy my Christmas in my way but the glitter and the pomp is no longer of any interest , I hope when the day arrive you all have a good one . Pushkin
Ditchy, you can always start a new trend. When the easter eggs start to appear (about mid December) buy some and eat them with clotted cream, enjoy mate
