With the weather getting colder and a day out on the shoot tomorrow I thought I better have some inner warmth to keep the chill out , tried some different gravy tonight and it was far better than Morrisons own brand .

I find the Bisto Best gravy that comes in the glass jars pretty good

Food looks very nice MM!

I will try the glass jar variety next , I also add a oxo cube and a drop thickener for good measures , the veg last me about a fortnight and I renew it every other Sunday , if I have got any old veg left I give it to the horses , good value for money when you can get a Cauli , Cabbage , Carrots , Sprouts and a Broccoli head for less than a fiver .   MM

That looks good and I guess it was mighty tasty.

You've cracked the "eating well for less" game.

I too eat well and shop at Morrisons and Sainsburys reduced sections, can be a bit hit and miss, but also happy that I get some absolute bargains.

From what you've said I will have to investigate Marks and Spencers next.

Keep up the good work and once you have cracked the minor gravy problems, ALL will be well.

For what it's worth, here is my slant on gravy making.

I use whatever gravy granules that I have, they all work well with a little adjustment.

Place in a cup, add a little Worcestershire sauce, black pepper and the water from the vegetables or even plain boiled water.

BUT, do not put too much water in, make the gravy very thick and let it stand whilst plating up the meal.

THEN, add a small amount more of the liquid to bring the gravy to a thick, pourable glorious addition to the meal.

Simples.   :cool1:

Agreed, I use that as a 'base' with the veggie water and any decent juices from meat if available.

M&S are generally very good, but their more upmarket ranges (e.g. "Gastropub" ready dishes) are seriously expensive (though the ones I have tried are good).  I use Ocado who do a lot of M&S stuff (as well as both their own and 'big brands' and have a very reliable delivery service (round here anyway).  Works well for me as a '1 person' household, but would get pricey feeding a family daily.
