wymberley Posted Wednesday at 14:14 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 14:14 I was watching it but just at the wrong moment we had a visitor so will have to wait until this evening. I think that I got the gist of it in as much as our local P&CC is of the opinion that the recently announced increase in firearms licensing fees are insufficient because Devon and Cornwall have the largest number of certificates issued. Eh?

Tedward Posted Wednesday at 15:49 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 15:49 Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez has today (Friday, December 13) appointed former Dorset chief constable James Vaughan QPM as interim Chief Constable for Devon & Cornwall Police. The position became vacant after the substantive Chief Constable and Acting Chief Constable were suspended pending separate investigations by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). James Vaughan, the former Dorset Police chief constable, has now been appointed as the new acting chief constable of Devon and Cornwall, meaning that the force is paying its highest individual salary three times instead of one. The role comes with a salary of about £180,000.
Conor O'Gorman Posted Wednesday at 16:16 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 16:16 BBC South West covers the fees hike with a focus on firearms licensing in Devon and Cornwall. The Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner asserts that the new fees "remain significantly short of covering the actual costs to Devon and Cornwall Police" and BASC challenges this, whilst explaining that unless the money was ring-fenced, chief constables might spend it on something else, and there was "no guarantee" that the extra money would go into firearms licensing. The BBC does not comment on the lack of consultation and transparency around the increased fees and are weak on the fact that the government’s justification is bogus. Will new gun licence fees make us safer? We can each make a difference on this key issue. Please make sure you contact your MP to raise your concerns and please also complete a BASC survey to gather your experiences of the renewal and/or grant application process with your local police force.Click here for advice on raising your concerns with your MPClick here to complete a short BASC survey on your experience of firearms licensing
Tedward Posted Wednesday at 17:00 Report Share Posted Wednesday at 17:00 Conor, I think I’ve raised this before - do the various UK driving licence fees cover the actual cost of administration ? If they do, shouldn’t BASC be campaigning for a similar national system (with similar costs) for SGC and FAC licensing? cheers, Tedward. I have to put in a variation and I think it's a 2 month wait currently... Yippee

Yes it has been looked at and indeed its been discussed many times on forums and lots of pros and cons. You have to pay a replacement the fair salary for the post, and if you are not able to swiftly investigate the allegations for the TCC and CC, then of course you have 3 persons earning that salary. The issue should be "and they still haven't prioritised or expedited the 2 investigations to help save £360,000 pro rata costs for the suspended officers". The 3rd salary would be paid regardless.
