At home, as a child, chips were always fried in lard. Oil was something you put in the car and salt and peppered beef dripping on toast or fresh homemade bread was a Monday teatime treat, with the brown beef jelly under the creamy fat being particularly fought over.

Clogged arteries? Pah! Father and Mother both lasted 'til their 90s and both Grandmas into their late 80s.

Mmmm dripping on homemade bread. Lovely.

My grandparents were the same, all got into their 90's, lived out of the frying pan and smoked 1 million fags a day.

Have you ever noticed that,  poor people's food , always tastes better,  than rich people's food ?.

Not misjudged at all, just saying as it is. If you take out all of the fancy extras from 'rich people's food' you get 'poor people's food' 😆 I'm not rich BTW, not poor either, just love my food 😁

You fail to allow for the better quality ingredients used to make better food before all the additional bits and pieces are added.

My grandfather loved thick beef dripping on white bread, and also bread and cheese.  The butter for the bread was 'sliced' and laid on the bread rather than spread and a big lump of extra tasty cheddar added.  He live to a good old age.

good description..."an easy dinner"

at the moment im using rapeseed oil....Crisp&Dry............when i change the oil im tempted to try Lard or dripping...watch this space

Evening Simon .. I was going to change my oil in my deep fryer which I bought today ( oil that is ) looking at the instructions tonight it stated NOT to use lard ,Solid fat or Olive oil.

It might be worth checking yours to see if the one you have got is suitable for Lard , Solid fat or Olive oil , we don't want to lose you while making Brown chips
