Expired Certificate

Recommended Posts

Hello,

What do you do with an expired/out of date/old shotgun/firearms certificate? Also the person is deceased.

I can't remember what happens when you renew it.

Are you supposed to return it to the police and they issue a new one?

Can you destroy it yourself?

Cheers

You don't need to send back expired certificates. I've never sent back any of mine or had them asked for.

I would keep it in case there are any future queries. If you really want to get rid of it then send it to the licencing team office, perhaps with a covering letter.

Hello, Seems a difference of opinion but that for me was TVP, Other Police Forces may be different, Just give yours an Email then you know for sure

In my experience the police are only interested in the whereabouts of any firearms that may have been in that persons possession. The police should be informed of the person passing away. If the firearms were dealt with accordingly before or after the person passed away then keep it if it means anything to you. But no harm if you want to send to their firearms dept.
