I shoot loads of sqirrels and usually give them to an old boy that lives nearby who eats them, he says he has always eaten them and they havnt done him any harm(coming from a guy who smells like piddle and has a wort farm growing on his face).

does anyone else here eat squirrel? i hear that they carry the same diseases as rats also weils disease.

I dont know about the disease aspect but I have heard what meat they do have has hardly any fat and is very good.

They only eat the good stuff like nuts, berries bulbs and cable insulation.

Next time I bag some I will try them, there are some really nice recipies on here.

Lancslads dad can't get enough-----------------------squirells I mean.

He didnt stink of piddle last week, but he did have his best shooting gear on.

My grandad was a prisoner of war in the 1st. world war in Germany. He told of having to eat rats on a regular basis. It did him no harm, he almost made it to 100.

we used to eat them all the time back in the states. You just have to remember that they are a very muscle-y animal so there is very little fat and the meat can be a little tough and sinewy. You have to watch how you cook it but you get almost as much meat from a squirrel as you do a cotton tail rabbit.

Skin them as soon as you shoot them though. They are a real bear to skin once they get cold. Only thing worse I've found is a groundhog/woodchuck.

Thanks

Rick

Not to mention ...eggs, hatching and fledgling birds!!!

Still good high protein and fat free stuff, they can run fast and are agile so it must have some benefit.

There is a hotel near me (Windermere, Lakes). They have squirrel on their menu, apparently its very nice.

They "taste like chicken" - apparently...

In fact it's the UK unwritten rule that any meat apart from steak "tastes like chicken" i.e. -

FROGS LEGS - "tastes like chicken"

OSTRICH - "tastes like chicken"

CAT - "tastes like chicken"

KANGAROO - "tastes like chicken"

TURKEY - "tastes like chicken"

CHICKEN - "tastes like chicken"

I wouldn't touch them myself.

Not since I saw one raid our bins and run off with one of the baby's nappys.

Yum yum.

Yeah, I saw something similar today; a feral pigeon feasting on the contents of a swollen and run over disposable nappy. (They are now more common than the feral pigeon; humans are disgusting ******!)
