Floating Chamber
What do you reckon was the greatest invention (or discovery) of the FIRST Millennium? (Careful, it can't be BEFORE 1 A.D. or AFTER 999 A.D.) FC Edited January 23, 2008 by Floating Chamber

digger
The Victoria Cross, gave recognition to the fact that bravery comes in many forms and from many different continents. It is not led by colour, religion, vanity or self preservation, it is born out of sheer determination not to be put under. It should feature on the union jack and every nations flag that has winners of the medal from its people, be they Nepalese, Indian, Canadian or Scottish. Either that or breech loading guns. Mungler
Nope, gun power was invented after 1000 a.d. I would have gone with some sort of clock but I was 400 years too early. Paper, beer, steel, compass, coffee, Islam etc are listed on wikipedia as 1st millenium inventions. I would plumb for steel (and the associated developments in fire and smelting). Would definitely put engine it in the top 3 as it was one of the 3 main inventions that really brought on the human race leaps and bounds. I cant really think of any really good early inventions other that the whip and guillotine here 3 from me that if i had to choose it would be in this order electricity internal combustion engine nuclear power Since power has been around its given scope for so much more to be accomplished. I suppose penicillin should be on the list also Edited January 24, 2008 by auto culto
