Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
Hi all. Don, YTS and i were out in sunny wales yesterday. The rain had stopped (always a deciding factor where don is concerned ), there is very little wind and the sun is shining in short a lovely spring afternoon. So first off YTS and don checked the zero on their rifles and once convinced any misses would be their fault off we went for a drive round Bunny spotting. I have included a pic to share with you of the area we zero'd the rifles in. On this particular permission where a lot of rabbits are in residence we have found it pays now and again to have a drive round bunny spotting so we can hit the population explosions where they are at their worst. This soon led to a p/w style debate (only with lots of swearing and namecalling:rolleyes: ) for the collective name of a number of rabbits? after discounting the dubious and downright rude names that would have upset the moderators we settled on for want of a more technical description and after just looking at 9 bunnies in a 3 square yard area A CHUFFIN' SHEDLOAD perhaps one of the pigeonwatch faithful knows the correct name?? So with drive round complete and 3 areas decided upon for us to split up, safe areas of fire agreed, don produced the petrol stove and some vittles before the off. I must say though the sausages were well cooked there was a distinct lack of 'em and the aldi label on the packaging revealed dons scroogey attitude when it is his turn to provide food So suitably refreshed (belly still rumbling) off we went for an evenings stalking. My agreed area included 3 woods to choose from for an ambush point and as i made my way to the area i had in mind i steadily added 3 bunnies to the bag at ranges from 30 - 60yds. I got to the area i had in mind and settled down alongside a fallen log as cover. As dusk fell the bunnies came out of the woods. the first was taken at around 60yds, 2nd at 50yds, 3rd at 35 and the last one with light really beginning to go i spotted in the binocs at estimated 80yds, rifle is zero'd at 50yds aim 3" high, no wind, gentle squeeze on trigger and WHACK! clean headshot at paced 90yds one of my best shots to date. I began to make my way back to the car to meet don and yts scanning in front with the binocs and i managed to add another 3 bunnies to the bag at ranges from 30 - 45yds. 10 in the bag which is not bad for a couple of hours stalking. That sako is seriously accurate, don has shot some amazing groups with it After cleaning the slain and laying them out to cool it wasn't long before don and yts arrived, don had got 13 with the .17 and yts 7 to give us 30 between us. you may have spotted the sniper in the background fondly named JUDAS he has taught us much in the pursuit of rabbits and his courses are available for a not so modest fee We picked up another 5 bunnies from a garden area after the photo was taken to give us 35 in total for the night. An excellent aftenoon and evening one for the memory banks indeed. Don is complaining about sore shoulders from carrying all his rabbits so if anyone can help him out with one of those little granny shopping trollies he would much appreciate it HA HA. Thanks for reading hope you ejoyed the pics. rgds GSAW
Dead-Eyed Duck
The Sako that Gonna refers to is my Sako Varmint with a chopped down barrel and lightened stock. One of the dumbest things that Sako have done is to discontinue making this model, although I understand that they have brought out a Quad Varmint with a heavy barrel - I am considering changing my Annie Thumbhole hmr for one of these- although I do love the Annie stock. The magazine on the Annie drives me nuts - it is too small a capacity (4 rounds) plus getting the damn thing in and out is hopeless if you are in a hurry. Anyone got any ideas where I can get a thumbhole stock to fit a Sako? Oh, and I shot more rabbits than Gonna last night - although he forgot to mention this. I was using the Annie hmr on a very steep slope. 100 yard shots were the norm but allowing for the slope proved to be a little difficult at first. Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
Hang on a cotton pickin' minute aged companion, you shot more rabbits than me I let you have the best area My stomach was still rumbling from your meagre rations (thus making stealthy approach even more difficult) you are using a 100yd rifle as opposed to the 50yd rifle i used you were top to toe in cammo (soon to be ex has nicked mine, B*TCH!) i was clad in old wax jacket without even a hat. THATS CHUFFIN GRATITUDE FOR YOU! HMMMPHHHH!! Just goes to show that despite your unlimited££££££££££££££££ my superior fieldcraft and stealth and 100% hit rate resulted in you shooting just 3 more bunnies than me. If i were you i would be ashamed that it was just 3 more. Alas i know that as a manager shame has been brain washed from you so i shall just take the moral high ground and say no more
webber
Well done Don. I had the samr problem with the magazine and therefore bought an extra one at considerable cost. If you are going to ditch the Annie, please give me a shout as I think that McF would be interested. webber
Teal
I call a group of rabbits a nest, but I don't know if that is the correct term. I suspect it'd vary by area.

Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
Well done chaps As soon as i started reading this i thought bet food gets brought in to it Don and aldi sausages Pity yts turned up as it could of been reheaded steptoe & son Dear magman, i am doing my best to shame don into buying quality ingredients! alas i think even a public rousing will fail to have any effect on his moral fibre. The verbal jousting will no doubt continue, i would like however to draw your attention to the fact that don does supply vittles (they may be cheap and unsatisfactory but at least he makes the effort ) i dont seem to remember a contribution from you when we went foxing a while ago, no flask...no cakes....no sandwiches....no means for a fry up....the list goes on but modesty doesnt permit a full catalogue of your shortcomings some gratitude for our hospitality . I didn't believe the rumour that you kept a mouse trap in your wallet, nor that you still have the first £10 note you ever earned but i dont suppose you reach a level of your financial affluence by spending money on lifes essentials WHEN YOU CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THOSE LESS FORTUNATE its a chuffin' conspiracy i am surrounded by vipers...... Steptoe and son indeed HHHHMMMPPPPHHHHHHH!! your rendition of scrooge is worthy of an oscar (we could weigh it in don )HA HA HA Anyway now i have that off my chest, hope you are well and that lad of yours is still showing you how to shoot. fond regards GSAW

Dead-Eyed Duck
I remember when Steptoe senior was making a pie, and he took out his false teeth to crimp the pastry round the edges  Gonna's report is full of falsehoods of course. I cooked the repast with full, wholesome ingredients (Morrison's best - altho' the sell-by-date was a few months olde), whilst he and yts did a bit of target practice. The latter was a complete waste of time as he used a full box of rimmy ammo for a measly 10 rabbits - that's with my deadly accurate Sako as well. One thing though - even a ferret with tungsten teeth couldn't prise open Magman's purse ??? I'm just a simple soul; taken advantage of by everybody Don
