LEFTY478
It's all about permenant lifestyle changes and undertsanding that you can't drink 10 pints a night and eat 3 kebabs afterwards any more when you hit certain age. Could you please tell me what age that is and whether at 33 I am still young enough to enjoy? Drw, your weight XXX (in pounds) over the square of your height (in inches) times '703' produces your BMI. XXX lbs x 703 = BMI YY2inches If BMI is under 25? = keep going son . If BMI is over 25? = Easy tiger!
Dunkield
Dr W You are way too old chumpy! I guess it varies, we are all different. I had a 28" waist and weighed about 10 stone for years until I was about 30 or so. I ate out at least 5 days a week, normally 6 or 7, rarely excercised and drank as much as I wanted, or my company would pay for Now I binge eat/drink, but the rest of the time I eat carefully and probably average out at less than 4-5 units of booze a week. I walk miles more than I used to and feel much better for it, I used to ride a bit but it didn't help me walk up hills so I swapped that time for walking, I will probaly get the bike out when it warms up a bit. My waist has now settled at 34" my weight varies but averages at 12 and half stone and has done for at least 5 years or so.

Vegeta
As I am into a bit of weight lifting I just want to inform everyone about the dangers of using the BMI to judge health Its quite frankly a load of toss. Ok for your average Joe who does no regular exercise (shooting doen't count) it has some merrit Lets face it just taking your weight and your height means nothing about the state of your lungs, arteries etc It very very coarse and frankly I cant believe doctors use it Anyone doing strength training and it means nothing. Do you think the 16 stone 6ft muscle bound monsters playing rugby are overweight or unhealthy. Well they can run for 80 mins, have very little fat on them and bump into each other for the whole game. Yet according to the BMI some of them would be overweight or worse Body fat %, blood pressure, collestoral (sp?) ability to perform exercise etc are a much better indication of your health. shotgun harry
My bodyfat measures at around 15% usually or less, I suppose thats what you get from 6-8 hours training and classes a day. if anyone wants to come along to any of my classes drop me a pm I would be more than happy to administer a beasting! 76Lincoln
Just realised something about BMI, it's not that accurate, a good friend of mine compete's in tri-athalon's, he's 5'11" and when he's competing in event's usally wieghs in around 13st 8lb's giving him a BMI of 26.6, i wouldn't say he's over weight as you need need to be extremly fit for Tri-athlon. Just my tuppence worth.
Dunkield
I don't think anyone is suggesting it tells you all you need to know. We are now being we won't know how healthy we are until we have had a body scan to see how much internal fat we have

I do do a lot of exercise though so maybe thats it though it could pile on in a rush I'm getting to that sort of age

Therefore by that reckoning at 15 stone I have the body of a young Arnie, it's not fat it's well disguised muscle
Wookie
Tris, more or less. Got a comissioning board for the TA in September sometime. After that (assuming I pass) I get to do Tarts & Vicars at Sandhurst and there is no way I want to have anything less than good fitness for that. Ferret Master
I need to put on some weight. Seriously! I'm 5ft 7'' and weigh 7st 10. Last night I decided I wasn't as fit as I was this time 6 months ago as I was aching for 2 days afterwards whenever I did any running in P.E even though I didn't appear to have lost any speed over short distance. So in an attempt to get my body used to doing something again I decided to run up and down the stairs 100 times. Currently not feeling any worse off for doing it so I guess I best do it again tonight. That's on top of walking approximately 4 miles a day to, from and around school with a heavy bag on. Still doesn't help the fact I need to put some weight on though! FM
Wookie
FM... that's called muscle memory. I used to suffer loads like that when I was wakeboarding. Every time I stopped for a while, I'd suffer the first couple of time I went out, then I'd be ok. Just checked my BMI on the site... 22.13. Mind you, I am down about a stone and a bit from six months ago, but even that seems to say I am about right for my height.
