Hi Ron,

Belated Birthday wishes, how's the head today..?? :hmm:

I shot the British (or was it English?), A/R at Northampton many years ago, I can't even remember the format.

I think it was:

30 Sporting

25 Skeet

25 DTL (Single Barrel)

10 Pairs Double Rise

Would that make sense or have I got it all wrong?

I wouldn't mind shooting it, I'll see a bit nearer the time.

Hiya Cat, Yes Tony says best to shoot it early cos the sun is in your eyes on the Skeet layout, Its normally - 25 Sporting, 25 skeet, 25 s/b,DTL and 25 ABT.To be honest I only shoot A/R once or twice a year, and its allways the sporting!! I fall down on.!! I would like a crack on the Saturday (English) If you want. I will shoot on the same squad as yourself!. PS my head is fine! its the the rest of my body with the hangover! ! :hmm:

Well I have never shot ABT ever, ever so it should be a laugh.

Now for the posts,

What chokes should I use?

What's the best cartridge for ABT?

Where can I get a trap stock to fit my Blaser?

:lol: :lol: :lol::yes::blush:

Don't forget that you need your permission uprated for the higher power with the gat, and dispose of those oil drums in an environmentally friendy fashion.

This might help,

ABT

I have never shot it or seen it shot so it will be a laugh if nothing else. Can't be much harder than shooting sporting surely. It just varies on the same stand. Bit like my tuesday night club.

I occasionally shoot ABT and its surprising how different the targets are presented as you move along the shooting positions, plus factor in the randomness of the angle of the presentation and it calls for a high level of concentration.

A friend of mine who is very good at ABT tries to take the target as quickly as possible.

I find it needs a lot more concentration that Sporting. :hmm:

The birds are a fair bit quicker than DTL, most people get caught out by the low "grass cutters" and shoot over the top.

As Cranners says, most good ABT shooters take them very quickly, just pull the trigger as you swing through the bird, they don't generally need much "lead" if you've got a fast swing, and don't forget to use that second barrel if you miss with the first..!!

Chokes of 1/2 & 3/4 will be plenty if you've got a reasonably fast swing.

Common faults by those who've not shot it before are:

Calling "Pull" before you're 100% ready.

Head lifting off stock, (particularly on 2nd barrel shots)

Incorrect foot placement, you need to think about this on every station to make sure you can swing smoothly on those extreme right or left handers.

Cat.
