I have owned a few semi autos and enjoyed shooting them, preferring the Berettas.

They are very "pointable" and the 3 shot capability is useful sometimes and expensive sometimes. :hmm:

Your best bet is to find someone who has one and try it out on a round of Sporting (obviously only 2 cartridges in use).

Yep, Beretta every time, nothing to touch them for reliability.

If you do alot of hide shooting ,then i think it would be a good choice.

I had a Beretta 303 and found it ideal for Pigeon shooting from a hide but didn't like walking round the shoot with it.... far to bulky and not as comfy over the arm in my opinion..... but the best over the decoys.

Look for a Beretta , great reliablity and handling..... the sight picture when you look down the barrel isn't that much different from an O/U so shouldn't cause any problems, get to try one if you can... but be warned they can be quite addictive !

Nothing wrong with the reliability of a Browning Semi-Auto especially a gas operated one. I have a Browning Gold Hunter 3.5" chamber 30" barrels. Never missed a beat, points well, throws cartridges out well and a darn sight cheaper to buy than a beretta for what amounts to the same gun.

Have a look around, always beretta S/A's for sale, but not so many Browning S/A. Why, because they good guns and people don't sell good guns.

You have PM.

Whilst I respect your opinon (as thats what it is) to quote the Browning as the same as a Beretta is misleading and wrong.

Browning semis are way behind in the development stakes to Beretta and only now (with the advent of the Wnchester X3 and Browning Fusion) are they getting anywhere near.

Early Brownings (A5s) whilst reliable and well built, were cumbersome and difficult to live with due to the receiver being very large.

Browning have been playing catch-up ever since. Browning semis are no where near the same quality as their other guns.

Beretta are not market leaders in the semi market for no reason. As with so many things in life- you get what you pay for.... Buy a modern Browning and you are getting a Winny X3.

There are cheap semis that function perfectly well for a fraction of both the (new) Browning/Winny and the Beretta.

For your first venture into Semi land you need to try one, as they are different, you need either a shorter barrel semi for it to swing the same as your O/U--- OR-- if you get teh same length barrel semi as your O/U it will feel very long and cumbersome to start with.

Eg I use 28" O/U annd 26" semis.

The vast majority of my shotgun shooting is from a hide against rooks/pidgeons. I find the extra shot in a semi usefull and im now on my third semi auto the first was a remi 1100 2nd a beretta al391 and i now own a cracking benelli m2 which is soo easy to clean  . Ive not had any problems with any of them and really recommend a semi auto they are great fun with the advantage of low recoil. Ive nothing against o/u s/s shotties its just they arnt my thing.

 ss, the browning silver |i have is the predecessor to the gold, the one you have, it has exactly the same action and despite what the berretta fanatics say, they are reliable well built and last.I have fired an ulrica and the recoil from it was horrendous, and its clunked when you shot it. I fired the extrema2 which is supposed to have the best recoil system in it of any gun......the owner and i both agreed the browning had less recoil!!! And the paint is flaking of his berretta...the build qu;laity recently has left something to be desired.

xtrema 2 all the way, the old man is thinking about part- exing his benelli sbe2 for one! Iv had mine about a year, I use it wildfowling, rough shooting, decoying, clay shoots etc and she has NEVER once jammed, quality bit of kit :good: This pic was taken DURING the wildfowling season before someone gets excited!
