Steve
I've heard that magpies can be drawn into range with the temptation of frozen chips??? Has anyone tried this, and does it work? Steve

lazza
He's right I have'nt shot one yet but not for lack of trying. The above always seems to drop'em before they get to me.They do say revenge is sweet.............. :(
Steve
Sounds really familiar. A chance of a shot at a maggie always brings out rivalries between shooting partners. It's no wonder, they are soooooooooo satisfying to get! Keep trying Lazza - it will be worth it. Steve
Kev
One day Lazza youll be quicker on the draw than me . Also it saves you missing them. LOL LOL LOL Will see what rooting brings on Saturday. 1 for Sorrow Two for JOY Kev :(
lazza
Listen mate. You might be going ROOTING on Saturday but I'd be happy to go & shoot pigeons instead. lol :( :(
Kev
Lazza I meant rooting because thats what you spend the other half of your time doing (only jealous) When roosting with Lazza this evening the farmer had duped a load of manure if the field by the wood. There sat 5 Maggies having a feast and poor old Lazza still didn’t get one. It needed 1 more to make 6 for gold than he might of scored Kev :( :(
BigDave15
I find a dead rabbit works. But i norrmally use chips as the red kites seam to be verry intrested in the rabbit and I wouldent want to go shooting one of them!! :(
Steve
I'm amazed that frozen chips will attract magpies! Where do you put them - near their nest? Another tip is to bring a box of matches with you and shake it to imitate the chattering call of another maggie. Steve 8)

Steve
Cheers Mick :( . I'm always on the look out for any tips on getting maggies. A bit of cat food and a decoy or two has worked for me in the past. I'll give the popcorn a go and let you know how it goes. Steve
mikec
If you know where they nest is. place a owl decoy near this makes them real mad, may give you a shot or two all the best mike
goodo123
Frozen chips and popcorn? Does it really work?
garden gun
Out of date eggs are a good one. Just pop them down and wait. The ones round our way loose all caution when filling their beaks.
the pigeon man
1 maggie decoy on a post works for me !!!
Hamster
Frozen chips are OK but they remain alert, if you want them to relax and start having a bit of horse play try frozen burgers. They're one of my favourite airgun quarry and I've found using the shot birds as decoys works very well. I mounted one as a flier once like you do with pigeon and it still pulled them in right underneath the decoy looking at it in amazement. Longbower
They are very wary blighters though. I have spent many hours concealed in a hide, to no avail. Others , have virtually walked up to the car and presented themselves .They dont seem afraid of cars. I shot one raiding the bird feeders at my daughters house, the others 'kicked off good style' never heard a row like it, but no more came down,And then , they avoided her garden completely for a number of weeks. I believe they do communicate, just as other Corvids do.
