Had a drive around the farm today and caught up with my farmer friend . He told me that they would be combining barley tomorrow weather permitting . He was also spraying off the rape today and that it would have to be combined with in the next 10 days . Looks like i shall be very busy shooting pigeons on stubbles very soon . Dont you just love this time of the year . Harnser .

crops nowhere near ripening here in NE scotland, another 4-6 weeks at least i reckon

still havent done proper decoying on stubble yet,

we had a good hour or so on recently cut hay field on sunday, didnt even bother with a hide, but this meant the birds were spooked quickly at last moment, with no attempt to flutter into land, but at least it bought them in range and slowed them down, and we had written the day off as not much wind and hot, bagged 6 birds in just over an hour, would have got none without the decoys

the birds had clover and i think grass seed in the crops

kale wasnt very good on friday / saturday, 6 birds then 7 birds, with over 4 hours shooting each day

think they have been spooked off the field now, as i got 25 previous week and another shooter 13 the day after

we just dont get the pigeon numbers up here, so it seems 25 is a rare bag...

look forward to harvest time up here, must try to find some other farms to shoot on,

it seems when i have asked before, farmers arent bothered about pigeons feeding after the harvest, as they dont get the decimating flocks before the harvest,

That's intersting H, they are going to cut the rape first here, it was sprayed last week, so any day now I shall be standing on the combine, choking on dust and shooting rabbits. Doncha love it?

Bob ,

I shall also be following the combine round on a couple of fields that are notorious for holding the rabbits . I will take 4 more guns with me and stand in stratigic parts of the fields and shoot them as they bolt . Tried that riding on the combine ,to dirty and noisy for me . Yes dont you just love it . Harnser .

Oh yes, It's not as bad if you wear a face mask, (well, actually it is as bad, it just feels better). But dirty, s'trewth. I don't remember those huge clouds of dust a few years back, any idea why wheat is so dusty now?
